Hi Fitbit, have you solved the swimming issue  and is the Versa 2 capable to track swimming ?

Hmmm. I have a theory.
my Versa died after swimming (left button stopped working) and research on these forums seemed that it was a common issue. Fitbit replaced it without quibble (third such replacement I’ve had, the other two died for different reasons) and I was surprised that they offered me a Versa 2 as my original colour choice wasn’t available in the Versa.

Maybe just having a stopwatch rather than a length tracker somehow makes the Versa 2 less susceptible to water damage and that’s why they have removed it (given that you will check/touch the watch less if you know it’s not counting lengths) - since admitting this would highlight a common problem with the Versa.

otherwise I really don’t get why they would remove such a useful feature!

it’s annoying since other features of Versa 2 (such as the always on screen option) are nice but I kind of wish I had stuck to Versa 1...

No. You are not missing anything on the Settings for Versa 2. I am
convinced that Versa 2 was released without the laps display on the watch.
Ironically, today, I had to step back to my original Versa to record and
show my 3,000 yards swim today.
I had abandoned my original Versa because I could not install new bands on
it, and Fitbit was unwilling to assist me because the warranty had expired.

As an IT professional, it seems to me that fixing the Versa 2
no-laps-display issue is probably not a big deal. I think it can be done
through a software update that can be downloaded and installed on the
existing Versa 2, without waiting for a whole new release of the device. We
need to have everyone affected to speak up so that we can be loud enough in
the marketplace to get attention.

I’m still considering going for the Apple Watch, but I don’t like having to
charge my wearable like my phone.

I have purchased the versa the older one. It has all the stats. Love it so
far.
And the update gives me all the exercises included yoga, spinning
elliptical and lots more

LiliyaFitbit,

I sure hope your offer is sincere - to help.  There are many of us who have been begging for stats to be displayed ON THE WATCH DURING the swim.  All that is available on the Versa 2 is the stopwatch.  Everyone at Fitbit keeps saying the stats are on the app, but the app in on the phone, in the locker, and not in the pool - the watch is, but there is nothing but the stopwatch on the display.  We are begging for laps, lengths, distance or other useful stats to be displayed while we are swimming.  We've made suggestions through that page, and have voted/commented many times, but have heard nothing back other than "the stats are there in the app".  Please help us!

Thanks!

The versa does everything NOT THE VERSA 2

My 2nd versa died so I decided to pick up a versa2.  Now I have to return it because there are no stats during swimming.  Totally insane!

Hello do you know how to see the laps whilst swimming or is it only whilst syncing to the phone

I have the original versa which can still be purchased. It shows me all my stats for swimming while in the pool.

Sadly, the info is only available in the app. They don’t seem interested in telling us why they dropped it from the watch in the Versa 2.

I upgraded to the Versa 2 after my original Versa broke and I'm disappointed to find swimming tracking has been seriously downgraded. I liked the lengths tracking feature as it meant I could focus on my swimming rather than concentrate on that.

I'm amazed they took it away and more so they think "just look at the app" is a reasonable solution. Do they not know what swimming is?

I know you can create custom watch faces, can you do so for tracking as well? Tempted to just make my own at this rate!

Does anyone know if the versa 2 tracks swim laps and allows you to view them on your wrist as you are swimming?  I know the Versa did but I am trying out the Versa 2 and it appears that all I can see is the swim time as I am actually swimming.

Hi
No it doesn’t do lengths and because of that I went over to ionic. Brilliant the ionic is. But the Versa original is good as well

All the Versa 2 gives you on the watch for swimming is a stopwatch. You can be standing in the pool doing nothing and it still counts time. It does not track activity, length, or distance at all - except on the app. So if you want to know if you are anywhere near achieving your goals you have to climb out of the pools and sync with your phone. Ridiculous. I sooo wish I had bought the latest Apple Watch instead 😞

It seems like Fitbit are just ignoring this topic completely. Time to give up.

Hi Fitbit the post you’ve linked to say the versa 2 is swim proof it doesn’t say it can track swims. Can you please clarify your advice?

Based on your website the comparative list of features says a versa 2 doesn’t track swims.

Unlike the Versa 1, the Versa 2 does NOT track swim lengths, distance, pace or calories on the watchface. All it offers is a timer. To find out how far you are progressing towards your goals you have to leave the pool and sync with the Fitbit app on your phone - which is pretty useless. I have therefore gone back to using the Versa 1 when I swim. I would not advise keen swimmers to even look at this product unless or until this is fixed.

I surely wish I would have read these comments before getting my husband to buy me this Versa 2.  I'm so angry about the diminished swim functionalities.  Logic would say that if its an upgrade to a current model it would have the same features but MORE AND BETTER!  When I swim the only information it gives me is a timer, what good is that?  Poorly designed!  Waste of money.

Best Answer

Right and that is the problem.  Why would you only want to see a timer?  You should be able to see the timer, your stats, the lap count and even break it down into sets.  My friend has the Versa 1 has way more swim functionality than I do with the 2 and I'm very angry.  I wish I would have read these comments before getting it.

I did and they did confirm with me today that those features were in fact REMOVED!  You can see the lap count in the app but what good is that for you WHILE YOU'RE SWIMMING!  It should be included in the watch!  Completely angry and dissatisfied.
