Versa 2 won’t show notifications for text messages

I just got my Versa 2 and was excited for it. I knew there were some things that it wouldn’t do, but I know that it’s supposed to notify me when I get texts. I have an iPhone XS Max. It won’t even receive sms texts. I have tried turning off blue tooth and reconnecting it. It is syncing fine and I’m getting all the other notifications (app, calls, etc.). It’s just text messages.  Any tips?
