Versa 2 won't track my steps accurately

We three got Fitbits this past Christmas. It has come to my attention that my Mom's doesn't count steps like mine. We all have the same Fitbits, a Versa 2. And I walk the same distance with her when we go on walks. So why does mine count faster?

(Extra note is that my Mom's Fitbit would not count steps when she walked on a treadmill. And yet mine did. And she walked for like an hour.)

As for my Dad, his Fitbit is dead and his charger will not work. However, my Mom uses the same charger and it works fine for her Fitbit. (They share one charger)

Any suggestions? Thanks for reading.

Hi here, @Truffle. Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums and sharing the details about the issue with the Versa 2 devices.

Before anything else, I would like to clarify that it's normal that you see a difference when you are comparing your data with another person, this is because Fitbit devices record your data based on your personal information (age, gender, weight and height). Another thing that you should take in consideration is that your Fitbit devices tracks steps when you are pushing a stroller or a shopping cart, but because your hands are not moving your step count may be lower than usual during this activity.

Also, keep in mind that it's possible to get different readings if the Fitbit devices are worn in different locations (dominant vs non-dominant wrist). For more information, see How accurate are Fitbit devices?

Regarding to your mom's Versa 2, please note that your Fitbit devices may not detect the number of steps if your arms are not moving. If you guys walk with a normal arm swing on the Treadmill/Elliptical, it should count the proper number of steps and calories.

With the above being said, if you both were using the Treadmill exercise mode on the Versa 2 it will use the Walking Stride Length and not the Running Stride Length for calculating distance from the number of steps. This will cause the distance to be off substantially. So, if you were running on the Treadmill/Elliptical, it is better to use the Run exercise mode, assuming you have correctly set up the stride lengths for Walk and Run. However, keep in mind that it is important that your arms swing freely in order for the Versa 2 to count steps, and not held next to the body.

As for your dad's Versa 2 not charging, please advise him to take a look at this help article Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?
