Versa 2 won't turn on

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Versa 2 was working this morning just fine. Looked down about noon and noticed it wasn't on. Tried to turn it back on and nothing. I'm not near my charger, but, will try that when I get home. I have had issues with Fitbit technology in the past. I hope this isn't another one.

Hi there @PennStater2019 and @Jammbard, welcome to the Community Forums. I'm sorry to hear that your Versa 2 smartwatches' screen won't turn on. I'll be glad to help you both with this.

In order for me to better assist you with this, please try the steps below:

  1. Check in the Fitbit app if your Versa 2 is still syncing, if so, try changing the clock face to a different one by following these steps: How do I change the clock face on my Fitbit device?. The steps are done through the Fitbit app, do not worry if you cannot see anything on the screen for this process.
  2. Restart your device by following the steps from this help article: How do I restart my Fitbit device?

If the suggestions don't work and your watch doesn't vibrate when you connect it to the charger, it may be that the battery of your Fitbit is not charging properly and therefore it does not turn on. Said that, I recommend doing the following:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?

If the above steps don't work, at this point I recommend doing a factory reset (before doing so, make sure to remove your watch from your Fitbit account):

  1. Hold the back button for about 8 seconds.
  2. When the Fitbit logo disappears:
    1. Release the button briefly (for less than 2 seconds).
    2. Hold the button again until you feel a second, longer vibration, which indicates you initiated the factory reset.

You can follow the steps to set up the device after that: How do I set up my Fitbit device?

I'm looking forward to your response, keep me posted.

I was able to restart the Versa 2. The battery showed it was very low. I'm wondering if I thought I had it on the charger, but, didn't have it set all the way. I will try that today and see if that was the issue.

Hi Pennstater2019,
I appreciate your response as I am curious who else has experienced these random shutdowns. You’re the second one I’ve received today. Same issue.
I did get a brief response from Fitbit today. Regrets for the issues my Versa 2 is having and a request to keep them informed if/when it happens again. This is the second time by the way.
They did suggest I review the warranty and attached a link.

I do enjoy having the watch. It does what I want although there’s a lot more features that I don’t use. It seems to be geared for the serious exercise/runners etc. which is fine but that’s not me.
For the most part, my steps counting seems to be fairly accurate. The sleep app works most of the time but occasionally has huge gaps in recording. Those gaps seem to correlate with when I very remove the metal mesh band (aftermarket) and rinse it off and gently wipe the actual watch with a damp cloth. The readings are irregular on the nights after I do that. I also wish it connected with my iPhone Health app.

But the battery does last most of seven days and that’s the primary reason I bought it.
The Apple Watch lasts a pathetic 18 hours. You’d think they’d wake up and install an on-board solar charger or limit the number of functions. Had it lasted a week or more I’d probably bought it even though it didn’t have an on-board sleep app.

Anyway, sorry for the long review.
Just thought I’d put it out there.

Back on the Versa 2. I know these products are complicated. Life today is complicated.
What gets me is their past performance regarding basic issues and customer support approach. The whole “votes” thing is of no value as far as I can tell. From what I experienced on a Charge 2 I used to have, Fitbit really wasn’t behind their product.
Let’s hope they’re behind the Versa line.

In today’s world there are lots of choices and the differentiating factor more and more is customer/product support. Unless you invent a hoverboard and have the market cornered, you better listen to your customers. One click and they’re gone. There are probably over a dozen suppliers of fitness trainer watches I could have purchased. We’ll see if Fitbit has the right stuff.

I’ll get off my soapbox now.
Have a good week!

Hello there - i followed all your steps and my Versa still won't turn back on. It's not even a year old so I hate to think it's already broken.  Please advise.

The same thing happened to me with my Versa. Was working up until 4:00 pm (ish). Thought it died and needed to be charged as the battery was low. Thought my 'charger' was broke. Went and bought a new charger today (7/15/20) and nothing.... of course, my 1 year was up on 7/5....

Meleana,

Sorry to hear about your Versa going dark.

After charging mine for several hours I disconnected it from the charger and had to hold the button for around 20-30 seconds.  It finally came on.

If it comes on you might try doing a factory reset but REMOVE YOUR VERSA FROM YOUR FITBIT APP ON YOUR PHONE FIRST.  When it finally comes alive hold the button down again until it vibrates long.  That should reset it.

If yours doesn’t I’d suggest calling Fitbit.

I’ve attached a link to the warranty that you should review.

I’ve received several emails in the last 24 hours from people having the exact same issue.

Makes me wonder if Fitbit did a software push or something.

Good luck

Young Tribe,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues.

fyi

I’ve got several emails in the last day or so from people having their Versa watch go dark.

Very Strange.

I wonder if Fitbit will just replace it if you return the old one?

Good Luck

I was able to get it back on yesterday enough to see the battery was almost completely drained. It may not have charged the day before and I just didn't see it. I put it on the charger for about an hour and it is fine so far. I think it popped out of the charger and I didn't notice.

Interesting because TheYoungTribeNC mentioned their versa going dark 4pmish, which the time mine went dark. Makes me wonder if there was some sort of SW push from Fitbit. And maybe that's why when I called service they sent me a return label to send it in. And I'm 3mos past my 1 year warrenty.  We'll see I hope they send me a new one.

You might have discovered a common thread with the day and time thing.
Great news for you.
Let’s hope Fitbit sends you another one and you can send your old one back.
I’d like to know in case mine goes dark and never comes back on.
Thanks!
Have a good evening.

Glad I seen this post because mine did the same thing and my Fitbit is only 4 months old I was told I had to pay to return it. I just sent a email asking why.

I have a similar problem. When app updated everything went sour. Tried all suggestions from Troubleshooting but nothing worked. Now watch won't come on and even though it is recognized in Bluetooth message says incorrect PIN number.  $150 shot. Good luck with yours.

I would contact  their customer support,  they are sending me a new one because of the update messed up mines. They call the problem *reboot update* if that helps.

I got my versa 2 about three months ago and worked fine. I didn’t wear it this sunday and as I was going to put it on monday (today) it wouldn’t turn on even when charged for a few hours.

I tried to restart it and held the button for several seconds without the logo appearing or any sign it was still working.
please help
