Versa 3 Controls won't stay connected to my phone's Bluetooth

The Versa 3 Controls that control the Calls and Input Device settings from the phone's Bluetooth settings continually disconnects.

Here's what's happening & what I've been doing.

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy s10 phone.

The Versa 3 was added to the app and the Versa 3 Controls were working but when I got a call it didn't come through to the watch after the first day. So when I went into the phone's Bluetooth setting & found the Versa 3 Controls were paired but didn't show "connected". However the app and watch synced fine.

So I forgot the Versa 3 Controls and disconnected it in the Bluetooth settings in the watch. I then re-paired the watch with the phone and the Versa 3 Controls showed "connected for calls" again.

However after a certain amount of time this disappears and the watch doesn't take on wrist calls anymore. However, the watch & Fitbit app sync just fine.

So I go into the Fitbit app, click the "On Wrist Calls" button then back into the Bluetooth settings of the phone and it shows "connected for calls" again in the Versa 3 Controls. Then, again, after a certain time, it disconnects.

Round & round it goes, but after about 2 more times it just doesn't work doing that anymore and I have to completely forget the Versa 3 Controls in the Bluetooth settings and re-pair it again. Then it disconnects & I start the process all over again. Meanwhile, this whole time the watch syncs just fine with the app. It just doesn't take the on wrist calls.

The watch is 3 days old.

I've also removed the watch from the app & re-installed it. That didn't help either.

Any ideas?

My wallet paymeworked twice and never again and I think it's due to the same problem as yours

My Versa started working better after the last IOS update. It might have been a problem between the FitBit app and Apple OS.

I am having the same issue with my Galaxy9S and wondering the same as some of the post with the Galaxy phones. However, my Versa3 wont even sync no matter what I do. I am the same as D-mit... I am proactive and have read and attempted every Help Support forum on this issue. Don't know what else to do about syncing my watch and getting calls. It worked before and now it doesn't.

What annoys me about this whole thing, is that there is no acknowledgement from Fitbit, or any attempt to try and solve it. It's quite obviously a widespread problem, but it's like they actually don't care! It's not like they are cheap and you can just go and get another watch (which when this one dies I will NOT be getting another Fitbit) so it's like we are stuck with a piece of kit, that only half works, and they just shrug and say, oh well....

Oh, and this thread is marked as answered??? Really, I don't see an answer that actually solves the issues we are all having. Poor Fitbit, very very poor

My apologies, I didn't think this post would get so long.

@Orla2 the wallet does not depend on Bluetooth, you don't even need your phone to be near you to use the pay feature.

I suggest posting your about your wallet issue in a a separate new thread.

@Paula1978 the best answer is chosen by the original poster, and is based on what they found worked for them.

If a user has a similar problem and the best answer doesn't solve it for them. This user should not be posting in a solved thread. They really should start a new thread that will be about their issue.

It is not easy to answer individual seperate issues when it is very possible that no two have the exact same issue. To make matters worse, we generally do not know if the user has an iOS or android phone. Sometimes the phone model will also play a part in finding a solution

Taking a quick look the original question is about Versa 3 controls.

I also see people asking about not receiving calls. This does not require Versa 3 controls. Versa 3 controls are only required if the user wants to talk through their Versa 3. Also controls are used for the advance text replies.

Then we have those who are unable to sync, this again, is unrelated.

Some mention that they have no problems with connecting to controls, but the BT range is minimum. These people need to contact support.

Some posts, simply say, I have the same issue, but with 4-5 separate issues in the thread, our response would be, which issue, can you add a little detail.

Sorry @Sueling but that is the way it works.no outgoing calls through the watch. I've been told, but never tried, using Google, it is possible.

@TNRyder you might get a better answer by adding a new thread on the iOS board

As for Fitbit being quiet or not responding, this is a community board, setup for community members helping community members. Moderators are here to oversee and moderate. They do not try and follow every thread. Usually, unless get notified, curious, or concearned, may not even watch a solved thread. Again, starting a fresh thread with your issue, and keeping the thread only about one person's issue is the best way to go.

I know many of on the CC find threads like this frustrating and tend to shy away from them. (I happen to still be subscribed)

I'm convinced that this is a gimmick still in beta. It does work (sometimes) when u really don't need it to but as soon as your hands are dirty from yard work or whatever and u need to take a call, it fails miserably. 99.9% of the time it's useless as useless gets and as aggravating as a 90's dell from hell.

For me, when wanted, accepting calls almost always works fine..However the volume needs to be raised at the beginning of everyucall.

If the Bluetooth actually worked the way you claim, this entire thread would not exist.

To go with your analogy, imagine that the door locks after closing. When you need to open it, the key does not work and you need to drill the lock out to open the door. And you need to do that every time the door closes.

The only solutions here are to get the lockmaker to fix the lock to actually function as it should, or get a different lock. And it doesn't seem like fixing the lock is being considered.

The exact same happens to me and I have an iPhone. I though it was an Apple issue but this now appears to be a Fitbit issue.

it’s so frustrating as I really like my Versa 3 and Fitbit.

I just called support and advised them if the issue and also all the steps I’ve taken to resolve. I was then advised they are aware of the problem and working on an update! How long does this update take? You first reported this apt 20, it’s now Jan 23…. Not a happy person after spending a lot of money on something which doesn’t do what it’s supposed to.

But do the controls stay connected? I can answers call on my wrists while it’s connected but it seems I have to redo it almost every day

Best Answer

Hi Rich,
thanks for your reply on this & was this taken as the best answer,
not sure am convinced with the controls not staying connected.
the trusted paired devices belongs to the same fitbit user - or else wouldn't have been connected.
this is something fibit would need to fix in the later releases(asap), you can't keep connecting everytime to use already paired devices/apps.

no offense but i wouldn't keep unlocking/opening the door of the house - every second, if i am already in the house & haven't gone out.

The main reason I have the Versa is to get notifications that I’m receiving a call or text. That’s stupid that I have to reconnect all the time—- never used to. How about you let us decide if it uses too much battery and we can turn it off. I can get any brand watch to just monitor my steps!!!

Well it's not very helpful when I press the button on the versa. 3. Wanting to ask Google a question or give it a command and it tells me it's disconnected

I have the same issue. Did you manage to fix this? I have tried loads of tips but still I can’t receive calls on the watch

Best Answer

My issue turned out that my phone software had updated but Fitbit hadn’t got round to applying the same update to their software. I had to wait several weeks before things started to work as it should.

I continue to have same Bluetooth disconnect issue. I have gone through the above listed steps a number of times. It temporarily reconnects then drops out again.
Do we think this os cause by the App or the watch?
