Versa 3 for swim tracking

I'm torn about upgrading from the Versa 2, but I'm leaning toward doing it. I like that the Versa 3 has GPS and an improved screen, but I think the real factor for me might be that inductive button. The inductive button should make waterproofing easier and I've had to replace one Versa 2 due to a bad seal. Swimming is my main cardio so waterproofing is very important for me. I'll probably buy myself one as  a Christmas present.

@datalore

I've also noticed that the Sense and Versa 3 both have the inclusion of a Gyroscope, something that was missing on the Versa 2. I'm hopeful this will mean the device will display laps live on the wrist whilst swimming, like the Ionic did. I believe Versa 2 didn't show the laps on the device, and I believe this is down to the lack of Gyroscope (of course I could be wrong).

I'm optimistic about lap counting. The lack of lap counting is the only thing that bothers me about my Versa 2. Lap counting is just a nice feature to have when you're in the middle of a swim set and your mind starts to wander.

Would be great if the new PurePulse 2.0 can enable heart rate tracking while swimming.

Polar’s optical sensor on OH1 can track heart rate accurately during swims. I’d definitely upgrade if Versa 3 can too.

@ekusan I agree, it would be good improvement. I haven't seen any mention of this yet, so I think it would be a case of waiting until people get their devices and are able to test them out.

I had my Versa 3 delivered on Friday. I went swimming today and it has stopped working, the watch has died. I am waiting for a reply from fitbit.

I wonder if they will replace it for you or make you send it to the factory before they give you a replacement.   They have always replaced it for me but this time they said because I have had so many issues with the Versa 3 dying when I swam with it on (which you are supposed to be able to do) they made send it to the factory before they would send me a replacement.   It took over a month to get the replacement!!!!    They have yet to tell me what they found out on the two Versa 3's I shipped them.   I am afraid to try swimming again with the one I have now as I do not want to be without a tracker for another month again.    They either need to admit you cannot swim with it or fix it when it dies after a short period of time.   Good luck with your replacement.

Sorry.   it was not a Versa 3 but a Versa 2.   I am disappointed to hear the Versa 3 quit working for you while swimming as well. That means they have not fixed the technology.    I guess I will not be investing in a new tracker.

Lol sorry to hear that

Just had my first swim with a new Versa 3.  Very disappointed that it only shows the time elapsed since you started the exercise. You can set the pool length, but you can't see how many lengths until you sync with the phone and the phone showed me a completely inaccurate number.   A clock near the pool is just as informative.  The versa 1 at least showed lengths completed, though I always had to reboot it to finish the exercise since the buttons never seemed to work.  The haptic button on the versa 3 is a big improvement, but it's a poor attempt at a swimming logger - hardly worth the waterproofing!

Nope, the versa 3 only shows the time elapsed since you started the exercise.  Very disappointing.

At least you made it through your swim with your fitbit still in tact.   Every time I swim with a fitbit that is "water resistant" it stops working or the face comes out of the case.    Very frustrating.   I would just like to get a true count of calories for the amount of time I swim.

I am a new user of fitbit versa 3 and this is the exact same problem I had. My friend who has a versa 2 can see all the stats after a swim.

Unfortunately, versa 3 tells you to check the fitbit app instead. Pure disappointment.

Yes, still wondering why they regressed the app! I didn't find the stats on the fitbit app to be at all accurate - did you?

I have not used my Versa 2 for swimming since I finally received the replacement last August.   Every time I used it for swimming it died and I had to request a replacement.    I decided to just give up as it does not sound like the Versa 3 is any better.

I definitely will not upgrade after hearing this, time to move away from the Fitbit.

My Charge 3 has allowed me to swim 5 days a week with laps tracking, etc. If you can find one, you might like it.

I am at the point where it's time to cut my losses and find a new product that supports swimmers.
