Versa 3 for swim tracking

I'm torn about upgrading from the Versa 2, but I'm leaning toward doing it. I like that the Versa 3 has GPS and an improved screen, but I think the real factor for me might be that inductive button. The inductive button should make waterproofing easier and I've had to replace one Versa 2 due to a bad seal. Swimming is my main cardio so waterproofing is very important for me. I'll probably buy myself one as  a Christmas present.

Coming from the Samsung Active 2 to Versa 3.  Took for my first swim today and it seems like it's only session time in the water.  I do really miss the lap counter and heart rate in session.  The thing that pushed me over the line and chose the Versa after my Active 2 died (water intrusion it looks like) was Google's purchase of Fitbit.  I am an Android user and use Google's services, I am hoping things get brought into their ecosystem and integrate better.  But I am realizing it may be a long haul to that point.

The versa 3 supports swimmers as well as any of the watch only fitness trackers. None of them have heart rate tracking during swim mode. It does an excellent job of tracking distance, laps,(lengths) and time. I want heart rate tracking so I use a manual finger worn lap counter and the fitbit 3 in "workout" mode. I get decent HR tracking this way.

Presumably you haven't found a way to track laps without looking at the phone app?  If you have, do tell!!  My phone app does not give me an accurate lap count - however long a stop I make at the end of each lap, it consistently fails to register that I've turned at all.  I really expect a swimmer's fitness watch to tell me how many laps I've done whilst I'm still in the water, which the Versa 1 managed quite well.

Agree. I am in the same boat!

I agree  fitbit is not a good recorder of swimming even though my Versa 3 counts laps and times ok. Annoyingly, my I

phone app defaults to a 25m lap and not the 10m  I've set on the watch. It's a pain that the watch records heart rate while swimming but won't include it in the swimming log. It's an old fault that I think you know. Fitbit just doesn't trust their heart rate monitor in the water. They must have got badly stung early in the piece and never overcome it.

Hi, my versa 3 does not seem to track my swimming at all, swam for 35 minutes without a break and it did not register it. Any tips or hints, have got it set for automatic tracking after 10 min.

Sorry I don't have a solution. I suppose like most other uses the Fitbit site sends you round in circles, and this forum is probably the best source.

That happened to me with my Versa 2 last summer. Fitbit couldn’t do anything about it because my warranty was up - they only offered me a small discount to buy another. I was disappointed.

And ironically, the stats shown on my phone are completely inaccurate other than elapsed time.  I have been logging into the browser site, and my dashboard activity is different for the swim than the app.  It's usually a little closer to accurate, but still not correct.  2 RESULTS FROM THE SAME DATA?!?!?!  (Example:  I swim 6 laps (12 lengths at 25 m).  That should be 300 meters.  Bu the app will say that I swam 17 lengths.  The browser will say I swam 14 lengths.  SMH.  Both are wrong, but 14 lengths is actually closer to the 12 I actually swam.)  I upgraded to Versa 3 specifically to track my swims, so I feel ripped off.

What’s frustrating for me is my old Ionic tracked my swimming distance and laps perfectly but my Versa 2 has never been accurate!

Yeah. Truth! Pretty sure my Charge 2 was much more accurate for lap swim
as well. I am recharging my Charge 3 now to test it out tomorrow.

Swimming with versa 3 a nightmare,  any time I activated tracker for swimming, I could never get it to turn off, so i used rhe automatic tracker, whichbos suppose to kick in after 10mins, I think....I could be still swimming 😀

I am having the same issue!! My Versa 3 just stops during my swim. It will either reboot, ask if I want to locate my phone, or simply go to the main screen. Then I lose my workout data. So annoying.  I just got my replacement yesterday,  went in the pool this morning, and the same thing happened!! 😡

No, Versa 2 doesn't show all the stats. Versa 1 did.

This is the same as Versa 2. It's so disappointing they didn't listen to the copious amount of feedback from Versa 2 swimming users to correct the issue with Versa 3.

Versa 3 has the same problem! I'm a swimmer and have had to send 2 back. Really considering a Garmin instead.

Yeah, I hear you. I was actually looking at Garmin yesterday. I do a lot
of hiking as well. Maybe it's time to buy a Garmin watch while I am
looking to upgrade to a satellite phone.

I'm looking at Garmin too. Several friends have them and love them. There is a specific Garmin swim watch too.

Yes, That's exactly what I will probably get. It's. It's really too bad because I have been a fitbit user for the last 7 years.
