Versa 3 is not tracking my steps accurately

I have walked approximately 3 miles/45 minutes each of the last two days.  Yesterday, it registered approximately 2,100 steps.  Today, it correctly showed 5,077 steps on my watch when finished.   Two hours later, it shows 3,000 steps on my watch and 0.8 miles walked.  Why did it change?

Hi @Mikeelle - in the Fitbit App when you click on the profile photo you should see only a Versa 3, if you have MobileTrack or another watch remove them.

Also hold the button on you watch for 10 seconds till it vibrates and the logo appears to make sure there are no temporary problems, then sync the watch.

I have no other devices...I have rebooted the watch, prior to your comment.  This may or may not have solved the problem.  What I want to know is, why did this happen.  I have no use for a device that I cannot rely on to be correct.
