Versa 3 is over counting my floors

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Recently, within the last 2 months, my Versa began to over count floors.  For example my normal day activities yesterday would have reported about 40 floors actually shows 180.  It seems to be getting worse every day.   This morning I got up and grabbed a cup of coffee sat down to write you.    It shows 78 steps and and 2 floors.   I live in a 1 floor home and have a normal bed and couch so no strenuous climbing yet this morning 😁.    Please help me solve  this problem.   I love my Fitbit and would like to have numbers I trust.  Thanks.

Totally with you on this...I also live in a 1 story (rambler) and have been noting that I have been getting way more floors than I would ever deserve.  Even with my walks outside (which just make it worse) the floor counts would make me think I had climbed a large hill (122 floors for me this last Wednesday).  I would agree with your timeframe too (in the last 2-3 months) -- Seems for me like it was the last couple months when this really started to get bad for me to with the over counting floors.  The other problem for me is that I don't want unearned floors to be factoring into any calorie burning and throwing off the nutrition side of the Fitbit tracking (since I recently started trying to shed COVID pounds).

From other posts I have seen, this is hopefully a warranty replacement situation (if your fitbit is still within warranty)

Oh well...just wanted to add my voice to your choir 🙂

Hi Marre,

I also have to same problem again. I did get a replacement Versa 3 from Fitbit and it worked normal for a month and I was very happy but then the stair count just kept creeping up every day and now it is in the 100's to 200's almost everyday.

have been very disappointed with this watch.

I must say, this is a very poor response.  I chatted to one of the support "advocates" about this issue on my wife's device last night.  He gave me word for word the same response.  Sure knows how to make somebody feel special...  Anyways, we concluded that it is a HW error, since some devices have it and some don't.  His suggestion was to keep the app and firmware up to date.  So...  I have a car with a busted airconditioning system: the suggestion is to keep the tank full of fuel and replace the tyres often.  That is the same logic.

He also categorically stated that the device will not be replaced under warranty, since the new device might have the same behaviour.  So, how many out of every 100 devices have this faulty behaviour?  50?  80?  Alarm bells are ringing, dear Fitbit.

Fitbit it's time to fix this problem, we paid your products to have all the features without bug!!

That’s really an awful response, and today (7 months later)  support told me “we are aware and working to resolve as quickly as possible” I can track this problem as far back as 2019 in your support forums. These models are quite expensive, I bought the more expensive of versa’s to get certain features, then found out after receiving it that those features don’t work in Canada, or with iPhones etc. now it’s also useless as a fitness tracker. I’m out $300, and will have to buy something else from another brand. Shameful.

I have had the same problem since I have bought this watch and they also replaced the watch and the new still did it. They say the know it is a problem. Lol Will fix it!! Been a very long time. I would not recommend this watch to anyone.

I never hear any problems from different companies Every model watch I have gotten there seems to be a problem. My next watch will not be a fitbit.

Yeah . They just dont care… once they have your money they got what they wanted out of the transaction. Holding up their end doesn’t interest them.

Is is now 2023 and this issue is still not resolved. My Versa 3 records 100 of floors climbed a day that I did not climb. Am I to assume Fitbit is just a bad product and this will never be resolved? Seems that way…

Vote with your wallet and buy something else.  Google has enough money, they don't need ours.  You can't complain about the support if there is no support to complain about...

Hi @Parker_Wasabi - this over floor counting has been an issue since a firmware update in 2021.  Some watches even had it not working before that.

A later firmware update may have improved things if the watch hadn't been damaged or faulty. Check you have the latest firmware if it is important. But if everything else is working it is probably best to ignore the update as it may impact other things.

Some watches may have become faulty or the firmware algorithm may no longer be operating correctly on your watch.

You can try Simplefloors to see how your pressure sensor is working. It tries to filter false floor counting to help see if the watch is working.
