Versa 3 is tracking too many steps while I'm sleeping

This has happened twice week . I've been off work, waking up later than usual and before I get out of bed my versa 3 is vibrating and celebrating hitting my 10k target. When I look closer it has clocked up 40-50,000 steps which, unless I've been sleephiking, I haven't done!

I've noticed in the past that the app sometimes says I'm on tens of thousands, but when I sync the app and the watch it sorts itself out.

Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

If it helps, the phone I'm using is a Samsung S20. I don't have any other apps connected to my fitbit (that I'm aware of) aside from myfitnesspal which I don't think counts steps anyway.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there, @RobJ333. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your Versa 3. I understand where your concern is coming from @NellyG Thanks for your help!

Besides MyFitnessPal, have you checked if by any chance you also have MobileTrack? I suggest double checking as MobileTrack is a low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

If you want to negate the steps tracked while you were sleeping, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hi @RobJ333 I'd suggest you restart your Versa a few times and see if that stops it happening again. If it still happens then contact Fitbit Support

Thanks Marre.

I don't think I do have another tracker added, how do I find out?

To be honest, even if I did I am sure it won't have picked up 55,000 steps while my phone was on the bedside table and I was asleep haha. Any other ideas??

Thank you 🙂

@RobJ333 Thanks for getting back!

To see if you have MobileTrack linked to your Fitbit account, please go to your Fitbit account, tap the Today tab > your profile picture > MobileTrack image.

Was your mobile phone near something with vibrations? Close to a fan or in a night stand, etc. In these scenarios, your tracker counts steps due to the vibrations.

Thanks again Marre. I did have MobileTrack linked and have unpaired it so will see what happens. My phone int anywhere near fans etc when I sleep, just sitting on a stable bedside table. Apparently I did nearly 100k steps last night 😂 will let you know if it happens now MobileTrack is off. Thanks!
