Versa 3 is tracking too many steps

Hello!

I have a problem that occurred 3 times  - on different watches:
First time: Fitbit Charge 4
Second & time: Fitbit Versa 3.

Problem:
What happens is that a incorrect step count is synced to my account.
This last time it reported ~200 000 steps that I have supposedly taken during a time span of 15 minute.
The two previous times this problem occurred it was also more than 100 000 steps synced incorrectly - during a super short time. Clearly something incorrect.

I have ticket with the Fitbit support regarding this topic - but they claim that it is my mobile phone that is the root cause of this problem. Well, I really don't believe that - since its super common Samsung Galaxy S10E mobile phone. And, how on earth does that interfere with data sync that the Fitbit app does with the Versa 3?

I really dislike this incorrect data - since it affects the total step count on my account.
If it was amount of incorrect steps would be fine. But 200 000! 😞

I tried reaching out to Fitbit to help me get rid of this bad data - but, they say its not possible. 😞

Hi there, @ted1001. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your Versa 3. I understand how you must be feeling.

I'm wondering if you're using another app connected to your Fitbit account that will add more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

For additional information, see Does the wrist I wear my device on affect the accuracy? and What can I do if my step count seems inaccurate?

Please note you cannot delete these extra steps. However, you can achieve the same result by negating them. For more information, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hope that helps.
