Versa 3 periodically stops tracking my heart rate

Had me Versa 3 for about 4 years and in the last week or so it's become unreliable with tracking my heart rate.  Every time I spot that it's stopped I restart it, and I've tried a factory reset a couple of times, but I'm still having the problem.  Anyone know how to resolve this?

Hi there, @Edelweiss79. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Versa 3 stops tracking your heart rate all of the sudden. I understand your concern, I will do my best to help you with this!

Have you noticed if your Versa 3 stops tracking your heart rate at any specific time of the day? Is it when you're exercising? Keep in mind that several factors can affect heart rate, including air temperature, stress level, alcohol or caffeine intake, immune response to illness, and medication use (source).

Exercising in cold weather can make it more difficult for your device to track your heart rate, as environmental conditions can affect skin perfusion (the amount of blood that flows through your skin). Spikes in your heart rate during sleep may be caused by sudden movements (for example, waking up and getting out of bed), or a weak signal due to wrist placement.

As with all heart-rate tracking technology, accuracy is affected by personal physiology, device location on your arm, and type of movement. For a more accurate heart-rate reading:

  • Wear your Fitbit device on top of your wrist, and make sure the back of the device is in contact with your skin.
  • When you’re not exercising, wear your device a finger’s width above your wrist bone.
  • During exercise, wear your device a bit tighter and higher for an improved fit. The band should be snug but not constricting (a tight band restricts blood flow, potentially affecting the heart-rate signal). Many exercises such as bike riding or weight lifting cause you to bend your wrist frequently, which could interfere with the heart-rate signal if the watch is lower on your wrist.

To resolve common issues, see our troubleshooting steps in What factors can affect my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device?

There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it.  It's been working well every since I've had it, not matter what type of exercise I'm doing, but just in this last week or two it's failing.  The app shows that it only recorded a heart rate for a short while, then it freezes and I have to reset it again.

@Edelweiss79 Thanks for getting back to me and for the update.

Since all the steps you tried didn't work, you have a Versa 3 and report it's not tracking your heart rate accurately, I need additional information from you that would best be shared privately. I’m sharing a link to a form for you to fill out so we can look into this further.

This form is only meant for you to use, so let me know once you’re done. Click here to get access to it.

This has been happening to me as well for the blast 3 weeks.  I have reinstalled the app, re-started my Fitbit, my phone everything suggested.  My Samsung S20 Fe says it’s paired but yet I cannot see my heart rate.  The changes and redesign of the app also do not reflect the clock face i am using, and always says “disconnected”.  Additionally, without initiating a change, my clock face will change on its own.  I survived the incorrect step counting debacle and hope this will be fixed as well.  Very annoying as I rely on a visual view of the app while exercising.  The Versa 3 shows it but the app does not.  Also, all of a sudden, it will connect and I’ll receive all my texts etc and then it’s gone again.

Versa 3 is not reflecting sleep nor resting heart rate. It is not accurately reflecting hourly activity. This has been going on for a week.

Watch and app do not show the same information. Sleep has not been logged since 6/14. Used the +log sleep but the information is still incorrect and there is no sleep score. Resting heart rate has been the same for 4 days. Hourly activity is correct on which but app picks and chooses which hours to log. There is no stress score or cardio load for the past week. Restarted phone and turned off watch, now watch won't turn back on. Watch is now stuck on fitbit logo. Now what are my options?

I’m not sure what the next steps are i have had success connecting to the
app by doing a hard restart but it seems to disconnect when I am inactive.
This morning I completely disconnected and re-paired and it finally
connected to,the app. Perhaps try to remove your device and re-pair?
There seems to be a problem with the app and it would be nice if someone
from Google would chime in! Very frustrating. Good luck.

Appreciate the advice. Watch turned back after finally connecting to charger after three tries. Once off charger with battery power at 99% , watch goes back to fitbit logo and only shows the watch face once back on charger after two tries. It is beyond frustrating. There is obviously something wrong since last update.
