Versa 3 suddenly massively overcounting steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've had my Versa 3 for just over a year, and yesterday it overestimated steps during a walk, then corrected itself. Today, it has done the same overestimation, but failed to correct it. When I look at the App, the steps counting during a walk seem appropriate, but the daily total is 1000s more than it should be. The total for today is apparently 30,010, but the 5 periods of walking total only 18,542 (1,376 + 1,419 + 11,787 +3,147 + 813). There's no way that I have done 13,000 incidental steps! I've tried rebooting the watch twice and restarting the app and my phone.  Maybe the 3-axis accelerometer is faulty???

yes an explanation would be good , so you can have some confidence in the fitbit brand . with this problem not being addressed  promptly and the forced firmware update for the battery problems . i applied for the compensation for this and was told i did not qualify , but still had to have the update and the less battery life , have been with fitbit for 7 years now . i am now very reluctant to buy another one in the future.

The problem seems to have been resolved for me after a couple of weeks of random step count increases/decreases.

Hi, unfortunately I don't think mine is completely fixed. It seemed okay for a day but it's back to adding extra steps. Have also noticed that the heartbeat number changes on its own if the watch is not on my arm. For example right now I'm watching it climb from 68 to over a hundred as it sits on a table.

Also, since I've reset the Fitbit it seems that I can no longer swipe down to get it to sync. I get an error message that says couldn't sync tap to open help. I have to go into the Fitbit app manually and click sync now which I never had to do before. Thank you

They might have fixed the “massive overcounting” problem, but there is still a discrepancy between the steps shown on the App and my Fitbit itself after synchronisation. The App is currently only showing 13 steps MORE than my Fitbit, but why is this now happening? Not my idea of “synchronisation”! It has happened more than once, by the way. Will continue looking for non-Fitbit alternatives…

Hi all, Steps counting bug - Update March 17th

Some people notice minor adjustments to the watch steps when syncing, meaning the problem is still not fully fixed.

What shows on the device is supposed to represent the activity at the time of syncing and be uploaded to the servers but is getting modified during the syncing or second syncing.

Thanks to those who reported this.

My steps are fixed but my heart rate number is now wrong, when I take it off it sits at 82 or something?! I think it’s also inaccurate when exercising. It’s like they fix one thing but mess another up! I only bought this watch a month or so ago and it’s been trouble ever since, maybe I shouldn’t of got a fitbit 😞

I am now no longer getting “you have completed todays steps” animations, i guess you are right?

Can’t find the brewery let alone the “piss up” 🤣

I think I have noticed this for a bit..I have to move the strap around to
get it to "engage"? Today it was perfect! I noticed a big difference
using an after market brand so stopped with that.

And I never get a message saying my workout is complete..just “way to go”

Again, I use this watch as a motivator and something to make me be
accountable and aware of being active..and of course the time!
