Versa 3 suddenly massively overcounting steps

I've had my Versa 3 for just over a year, and yesterday it overestimated steps during a walk, then corrected itself. Today, it has done the same overestimation, but failed to correct it. When I look at the App, the steps counting during a walk seem appropriate, but the daily total is 1000s more than it should be. The total for today is apparently 30,010, but the 5 periods of walking total only 18,542 (1,376 + 1,419 + 11,787 +3,147 + 813). There's no way that I have done 13,000 incidental steps! I've tried rebooting the watch twice and restarting the app and my phone.  Maybe the 3-axis accelerometer is faulty???

I've had good support from Fitbit in the past, but you are right, big tech
nor interested I'll keep going with the versa for now, and just
hope.....!

I have reported the issue on the fitbit Facebook page they came back like
it was a individual user issue a not a app or firmware issue. Maybe if we
all report it on the different platforms we may get a better response for
them to fix the bug

I have done the same. They made me do a bunch of irrelevant trouble shooting as though it's not a backend problem on their end.  End result is they want me to wear the watch on my Non dominant hand for the day. They are a absolutely clueless. All I want is an acknowledgement that there is an issue and notification when it's been corrected. It seems that is not possible.

Hi - It would be good to have an update on the investigations.  There are a lot of Versa 3 users currently affected.  Thanks.

I have reported it again to fitbit, they implied they are working on it.
We will see!

I too am having this with the watch constantly congratulating me during the day

my iPhone shows very high steps then resets to an older days reading then sometimes reverts to an outlandishly high value again

so its not apple as the post i am replying to is on a Samsung

I am seriously thinking its tome to get rid of fitbit

I have had feedback from fitbit today after send screenshot. -

Thanks for the screenshots. Our team is still looking to fix this issue. Though I don't have an estimated timeframe to share yet, be certain that our team is working round-the-clock to get everything back to how it was. In the meantime, make sure to keep your Fitbit app updated to receive the quickest resolution. Thanks for your patience in this matter.

Thank you! I almost thought it was fixed this morning...went almost 3
miles and then it jumped almost 2000 steps.

Same here. It started over counting by a factor of 3, meaning that on finishing a 5k run I'd done 15,000+ steps. Then it reset. Later in the day while walking it did the same thing.

I'm experiencing this issue. It started 2 weeks ago. I transferred my data over to Google in the hope that would fix the issue but it didn't.

My phone is a Pixel 8 and it uses Android 15.

I've just ordered a different smart watch ..my Versa doesn't reliably sync with my phone...it's a hassle, I have to often restart the phone and this new issue is a pain. For me it's time to leave Fitbit

How do you get into a chat session with Fitbit? I’m so annoyed at my Versa 3 adding thousands more steps

Ha...you never know! As a long time user of a Fibit I think I'm spoiled
from using what used to be an uncomplicated instrument to follow my health
and activity levels. All these tweaks are annoying. I'd love to know if
you're able to make an easy transition. I tried a Garmin and did not like
it.
