Versa 3 won't receive notifications unless the Fitbit app is running in the background

Has anyone else noticed they only get notifications on the Versa 3 if the Fitbit is open and running in the background on their iPhone? 
I stopped using my versa 3 for a month or so due to a surgery and not being able to be active. When I got it up and running again, I noticed the notifications only go to my watch if I have the Fitbit app open on my iPhone 11. It wasn’t like this before my surgery back in February. Do we know what changed or if anyone else has this issue?

Make sure to have your Fitbit device and Fitbit app up-to-date

This happens to me to plus I can’t get my phone to stay linked even when it’s still running in the background.

Hi there, @AlishaAH. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Versa 3.

If you haven't done so yet, please try removing the Bluetooth connection between your phone and your Fitbit device:

*On your phone, tap Settings > Bluetooth > the information icon next to the name of your Fitbit device > Forget This Device.
*Open the Fitbit app and set up the connection again. You should receive a message asking you to allow your Fitbit device to pair with your phone. Tap Pair to approve the request.

Sync your Versa 3 automatically when you open the Fitbit app or manually by tapping your profile picture > your device tile > Sync Now.
