Hi @annad71 - the side button is actually an indentation, to make it work squeeze the watch between first finger and thumb so the fleshy part of your thumb covers the indentation, or double tap the screen.
How do you know it's charged? If you are looking in the app check when it last synced and if it is showing your current steps, if you take some and sync again.
The most common cause of a watch that doesn't work is it is not charged. It could be something else, like it got wet and gets hot on the charger, if so stop immediately.

@annad71- the battery level in the App is when it last synced. If it is running down that quickly there must be internal damage, such as water in it. Look for other posts and if it gets hot charging stop immediately.
If the watch is under warranty, 1 or 2 years depending on country law, the quickest way to resolve it is to take it to the shop for a new replacement, hopefully over the counter.
If not try drying in a bag of rice for a few days, it may help but probably damage will have been done.
