Versa Dead After Swim

I guess I'm yet another FitBit Versa user who found out the hard way that the Versa isn't as waterproof as we thought. The light on the screen is on, but according to my app, the battery is dead. I've reached out to Support and I'm just waiting on a response. Not sure what else to do, or what the response will be. Ugh! So frustrating!

I came to the same conclusion. Fitbit keeps saying that the "majority of uses" haven't had any issues, but what percentage of users actually swim with it? I understand they can't warranty it forever, but I still think they should replace a product advertised for swim tracking when it dies after being in water. Years ago when I bought my first Fitbit they definitely would have replaced it. I did replace mine with the discount they offered me, but I will never feel safe buying another one at full price. I have an android phone, so Apple watch won't work for me. I guess I'll try Samsung or Garmin when my current Versa dies.

My fitbit has also died but it was after a work out!  I did not get it wet with anything from sweat from a run.  I can't get the screen to come on or the fitbit to act like it is charging.

Sorry to hear your Fitbit died also. 😞  I would contact support by phone. They might at least offer you a discount. If it is within warranty they will replace it.

I just learned as well... ugh! I waded in a pool with my toddler mainly with my arms out of the water holding her up this weekend and my battery won't stay charged now. I charged it fully in the evening and by 1am I woke up randomly and tried to check the time and it was already dead. So glad I caught it because I normally use it as my alarm. I was able to set one on my phone.

Here i am, discover i have the same issue mentioned here, while swimming with it for the first time past wednesday (30 october 2020 - had bought it early 2019)

Fitbit Versa is definitely not waterproof as written in the specs.

What can be done ? I am so disalpointed 😶

Luckily my husband had bought the extended warranty. I had to have it
replaced twice for the same issue and they finally sent me the new versa 2.
Guess the first one wasn’t good enough to keep manufacturing... I’m sorry
you are having issues.

Welcome to the Community forums @Pat.W, I'll be glad to help you with this.

Thank you for confirming that you've experienced the same problem with the Versa not responding after using to swim.

This watch should be swim-proof, so I've gone ahead and sent your information to the Customer Support team for further assistance and you should be getting a reply soon.

Keep me posted.

@Pat.W @DavideFitbit @Whitneytg I finally felt confident to go swimming with my fitbit versa yesterday. Got to the pool around 12:45pm with almost 50% battery. Was in the pool for short stints helping my son learn to swim. I didn't receive any phone calls and only two text notifications and the fitbit was dead before 2pm. Came home dried it off and then charged it while I showered and changed. Charged it to 92% before putting it back on. Again, received minimal text notifications and only two phone calls before going to bed. Woke up at 6am to a completely dead fitbit. I agree with other users, warranty or not, this is obviously a manufacturing defect on at least some models on the versa and should be treated as such and fully replaced regardless of warranty period. There's no way this should have died the first time I went swimming with it. I'm extremely disappointed and am now heavily rethinking my decision of buying any future fitbits. This is my third style of fitbit to act up outside of warranty. I think it may be time for a new brand of tracker.

Same!  I babied my first Versa 2, never took it swimming, wouldn't even wash my hands with it on!  That one broke from heart rate monitor failure, so they send me a replacement, I also babied this one, but this afternoon I took it swimming, and it stopped after about 30m in 4 feet of water.  It wont power on, but I doubt they will send a replacment because I have gotten one already.  I don't know what to do!

Super frustrating. They didn’t honor mine as it was out of warranty. I figured since the watch didn’t do what it claims to do then that would be on them regardless. Not the case. 😕

This is exactly what happened to me. Went swimming and now my fitbit is not working.

Mine never started working again and customer service only offered me
either $25 or 25% off a new device (I forget which) and only for a limited
time. I purchased a sense elsewhere but I am scared to death to swim or
shower while wearing it. Hopefully yours is still within warranty as mine
was not. Good luck!

It was not =\
Fitbit didn't care about that either. They offered me 35% but it took
forever for then to send it, I had to call. I'll probably just get a versa
2 again, the only difference is answering calls. I also will not be going
in water with it despite the "waterproof" and swim app.

This happened to me too! After swimming in the pool twice it won't turn on anymore. Tried the resetting option, cleaning charger, etc. Nothing worked. I've contacted Fitbit support and they just gave me a 35% discount since I bought this Versa 4 years ago....

They claimed they don't have people calling for this problem, that clearly
was a lie.

I'm guessing they don't want to admit to the number of people reporting the problem as it will look bad for them.
