Same issue since I updated my Versa. I never had this issue before and now it will not pair for more than a minute.

Not sure how this can be an Answered Question. . . I also have the same issue and hoped the Firmware update may have fixed it but it has not. . . I have to pair my phone and fitbit every time I want to control music and if I pause the music for too long it disconnects and I have to start again .. .

@RCMadShane since the OP was asking about how to get music control to work on his phone. They marked the best answer that got his problem solved.
You seem to have an unrelated problem in that you know how to get music working. Your issue seems to be that the Bluetooth classic does not stay bonded.
At some point this thread was hijacked, rather than starting a new thread about their unrelated problem. So yes i agree, this is not the best answer for this now unrelated conversation.

This thread has been pretty consistent, and the issue has never been resolved. Fitbit has engineered a poor solution for the music controls, and the latest firmware update proves it's a known issue nobody cares about (this issue is specifically called out in the settings, and the solution is to re-pair the phone). Android has API solutions Fitbit is opting to ignore. All Fitbit has done is convince me a true Android Wear solution is our only hope.

It's extremely frustrating that this issue has existed since May with no solution. I used the chat feature and got it to work for one whole day. In order to do that I had to uninstall and reinstall the app, reset the watch, and restart the phone. After which I was assured by tech support this would fix my issue. This watch was a complete waste of money if I can't use the music controls. I expect more from Fitbit, ignoring an entire group of users expressing a widespread issue. This is my third Fitbit and I'll never buy another one that's for sure.

when I pair my device it just says Connected ....it doesn't say classic

"Classic" does not show up as an option.
I am unable to select the Phone icon when selecting the music source on my Versa 2.
Other ideas?

When you swipe to settings on the Versa 2, then swipe up to bluetooth, scroll up, then tap until you see pair. Now the Versa 2 Classic should show up on the phone. When the phone connects the bluetooth will switch to on.

In my phone there is no classic setting or on the watch. The watch says in blue tooth settings "music via bluetooth
Pair or phone if music control isn't working" with an on, off and pair option. What does this mean

I'm experiencing the same problem with my Versa Lite and my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
The Versa Lite (Classic) bluetooth device will only connect when the watch is in pair mode. This times out after a short period and then fails to reconnect.
This makes it totally unusable.

Putting the trackers Bluetooth into pair mode, will allow the phones Bluetooth to find tracker. Then the user would tell the phone the tracker is a trusted device. Once the two units are connected, the Bluetooth on the versa switches automatically to on.
Now when the tracker requests to control music, the phone should link up the tracker since the phone knows the tracker can be trusted.
If it is not linking then for android open the list of trusted Bluetooth devices and tap the tracker. This will tell the phone to link the two units up.
With the latest firmware, things are working better for me. If the Versa can't link to the phone, I tap the 3 dots in the lower left, then choose phone. The phone links up and the music control Spears on my wrist.

@mistymole what phone do you have? If iOS, simply hold in the button to get to music controls.
If android. On versa lite, settings, music, put in pair.
On phone's Bluetooth, pair versa lite classic.
