When I tap the screen to see my steps and things, it won’t go anywhere and stays on the clock screen.

You don't just tap; you have to swipe the screen; swipe up to scroll down to see Today stats; swipe left to see apps.

Hi there @Dragonlady8, welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided about your Versa Lite's behavior.
If your Versa Lite is not responding at all or it's stuck in the clock screen, I'd recommend restarting it by following the steps in the article: How do I restart my Fitbit device?
If the screen doesn't work, please check in your Fitbit app if your watch is still syncing. If so, change the clock face to a different one to see if this brings back the display. Don't worry if you cannot see anything on the display by now, this process is done through the Fitbit app.

My Fitbit won’t swipe to the side or down. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting steps and have checked that is will sync.

By clicking upon How Do I Restart My Fitbit Devise" I am taken to ..."How do I navigate my Fitbit devise." Don't want that ... want to restart my Fitbit. Should be simple how to find this out.
