I now have a message on the screen saying this app requires the internet permission to be granted. It has a X to cancel but nothing happens when pushed it appeared for no reason last night have tried reinstalling the app on my phone and resetting the fitbit.

@Belcha Welcome to our Fitbit Community! I'm happy to assist you with your Fitbit Versa since it shows a message stating that the app requires Internet permission even though you have re-installed the Fitbit app.
Please let me know what is the brand and model of your phone.
In the meantime, try the setup process as described in this help article and see if the issue gets fixed.
