Versa Lite stuck on "Data not cleared, sync & try again"

I am getting a "data not cleared" error message on my Versa Lite. I have tried EVERYTHING: hard reboot, reinstalling the app, disconnecting the bluetooth, reinstalling the fit bit. Nothing is working. As a side note, I get as far as choosing to update the watch and then it never finishes updating. I left the watch for 2 hours yesterday and it was still "updating". Very frustrating. I would think with all of the messages I've seen with this error, that Fitbit could do a firmware fix!

Hi there, @Suebee2000. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Versa Lite is stuck on that message. I understand your concern, I will do my best to help you with this!

Please note the message "Data not cleared, Sync & Try again" usually appears when you performed a factory reset without first unpairing your watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings.

With that being said, please confirm if you've followed the steps below to solve this issue:

  • Unpair your Versa Lite from your phone's Bluetooth.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off the Bluetooth.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth.
  • Set up your Versa Lite again.
  • If there is no connection, restart your Versa Lite.

Yeah, I am doing all of those steps again. The app now cannot seem to find the Versa Lite watch...
This has been very frustrating and a little disappointing to see SO many messages in the Fitbit forum throughout the years with the same issue and people just giving up. It's not good customer service to just cut and paste possible fixes (the wording from 2020 is the same wording I received today).

I spent 4 hours updating the Fitbit and I'm still getting the Data Not Cleared error... totally useless.
