Wondering why my heart reader isn't working. The light sensor isn't lighting up in the back either.

Try a restart do it 3 times

In addition to the restart process that shared my friend @WendyB, I'd like you to try the troubleshooting steps that are listed in this help article. This article may contain steps that you already tried but you can skip them and proceed with the rest.
