Update 9/3/2020: This update should now be available to all customers. If you have any difficulty updating, make sure you are following the directions in this article, and then provide as many specific details as possible in your post so that we can assist.
We've started rolling out Fitbit OS 4.2 Firmware Update (71.6.19) for the Versa series.
We release firmware updates to all customers in phases. The update will be available to everyone soon, and a banner will appear in the app when you can install the update. If you don’t see the banner yet, check the app again later.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Versa device can be found here.
We recommend updating your Versa over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Versa to Wi-Fi, check out this article.
If you run into any trouble updating your Versa I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips.

Since upgrading to the new firmware, something seems to be wrong with the UI in the "Today" app on the Fitbit Versa. The top screen of the Today menu only shows an empty blue circle. Then only when I swipe right can I see my activity stats.

My versa lite was replaced after it wouldn't sync following an update. Now my replacement is only syncing sometimes and wont update. I've updated the app, switched bluetooth on & off and restarted the tracker. Any suggestions? I have a Samsung S8 phone.

@amgonzo , did you try to swipe down or to the right? If you can and get a screen, change your clockface. There’s something changed with the new Version and some clockfaces get errors like “fatal error, stack overflow” .
delete your clock face and reinstall it a few days later.
i had the same issue.

My fit it versa 2, I don't know if it is the watch itself or the app, is not registering when I do exercise but is now adding exercise and activities I have not done at hours I was not doing them. It's very disheartening

Since the update, my Fitbit is taking ages to sync and the time is wrong. No matter what I try it’s a good 15 minutes behind. I’ve reset my watch, tried the time zone thing but no luck. Anyone having similar issues?

Are these third party clock faces? If so, it'd be up to the creator to make sure it works with operating system updates.Just like with Computer software.
I see where you’re coming from but this looks like a bug in the firmware. I’ve seen the same problem in clock faces from other developers (eg the horizontal separators in Orb Redux). Is it up to third party developers to work around bugs in Fitbit’s OS? Maybe. But as a developer myself I’ve seen no communication from Fitbit to even acknowledge the issue, let alone explain how to circumvent it.

Anyway, I have reached out to the developer of the Heart Rate Monitor clock face, but no reply yet. From his Twitter feed, he now appears to use a different brand of fitness tracker, so my chances are slim of a workaround to this Fitbit OS issue. 😢

Went ahead and tried the update. Still under warranty so, I'd just have you send me a new one if it bricks my watch as it seems to have done for so many on this thread. It seems to be OK, I'm going to head out for a workout to check shortly. One thing though. the watch (Versa 2) will not maintain it's WiFi connection (even when I set up within a few feet of the router). I ultimately had to update via Bluetooth.
Is it possible that's what's happening to people here? The watch gets so far along, WiFi drops, and install aborts mid-stream leaving a borked up watch?
