Versa Stair Count way off

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just finished a 2 mile walk on flat ground & my Versa logged 23 flights of stairs!! It seems this is a common issue, so I doubt it's my device (brand new - only had it 24 hours).

Can we expect a fix for this?

I also had a similar situation. I did a hike last week and my Versa registered 175 flights.  I'm not that good!!

Mine is too I walk a mile on flat ground and it said I climbed 23 flights of stairs. I’ve only had this for 2 days and I’m not real happy

At the most, I might climb 6 stairs a day. Ftbit has awarded me a Happy Hill badge for climbing 10 floors in a day. It is ridiculous. The flights of stairs information is completely wrong. Fitbit needs to fix it or make it optional.

My issue is the exact opposite.  For the past two days, I am not getting any credit for flights of stairs climbed in my house.

I understand there is a set number of feet of elevation to count for a "floor" (I believe it is 10 feet).  My home has two flights of stairs; one is just over 10 feet and one is slightly under 10 feet.  I've consistently been getting "floors" credit for the taller set of stairs until yesterday morning.

Does anyone know of a change to the altitude change parameters for a floor?  I'm just recovering from a year of foot injury and surgery and climbing steps is literally the ONLY exercise I can get credit for right now until my doctor releases me from my walking boot.

Hey guys @SunsetRunner, @Acuwriter and @Mdpauley, let me give you a warm welcome to the Community! And @wtchambers, I hope you are doin' fine! If your Versa seem to be tracking too many extra floors that you are actually not climbing, I'd like you to take into consideration the following explanation:

Your watch uses an altimeter to detects floors. This is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure. Though your device is designed to look for pressure changes based on elevation gains, pressure changes due to other causes—such as a gust of wind, a weather change, or opening a door—can occasionally cause your device to register extra floors. If these factors aren't happening in your cases, try to restart your Versa, that might help to improve the accuracy of your watch.

Hey @NYBarb, now in your case, if your Versa isn't tracking your floors, what I can tell you, is that your watch registers one floor when you climb about 10 feet at one time. This is the only parameter that need to be met so your Versa registers floors. Now, what if you try the following, since you are recovering form a surgery and you have to wear a walking foot, maybe, that is the cause of the inaccuracy, so you can try to give your Versa to someone else just to see if it works and see how many floors it counts. If the same issue persists, let me know, I'll keep helping you out.

Have a nice day!

@HeydyFthank you for your response and willingness to help.  I had been wearing the Versa with the walking boot for the two weeks I have owned it and was successful in getting credit for floors climbed on my taller staircase.  Nothing changed between Sunday and Monday other than the floors no longer registering so I was concerned it was a firmware glitch. With that said, I followed your instructions to the other people in this thread and force re-booted my Versa. Lo and behold, I am now getting credit for climbing my tall staircase!  I'm so appreciative for even this little bit of positive feedback.  All together, I love my Versa and can't wait to get released to do "real" exercise again!

Thanks for the suggestion.  Bottom line for every issue before getting too frustrated...when in doubt, reboot!

Hey @NYBarb! Thanks for your response! Sounds very good that your Versa is tracking your floors accurately again. I appreciate you have tried the restart. I'm pretty sure that this will help other users as well. Like in your case @Mdpauley, restarting your Versa might also help yo out with this, so please give it a try and let me know how it goes. 😉

I'll be around guys!

I didn’t get enough stair flights counted for a couple days and today 1 have  15 flights! I have been in my car driving almost 8 hours total today. I know I only did 3 flights of stairs.

It al seemed over on my Steps given I drove most of the day.

This is my Fitbit Versa, it is also my third Fitbit.

I hope this glitch gets fixed fast.

I use my Fitbit to track my exercise as a cancer patient who has finished treatments 7 months ago. I need this to work as it motivate me to get moving. I also am keep stats as part of a research study, so I need to know my Fitbit is not flaking out on me.

I have the same complaint. I found that if I am going too slow, it wont register. For example when I'm carrying a load or 2 of laundry. Kind of frustratrating.

The stair issue is a problem with Versa whether Fitbit will acknowledge it it not. I had mine replaced and now the new one also way over counting stairs. This is not acceptable, for this cost.

I continue to have issues with under and over counting stairs.  This am I went up the same set of stairs (over 10 ft and was always correctly counted on my old fitbit) 3 times.  The first time it registered nothing, nor the second time.  After the 3rd time it suddenly showed 4, not three.  I've only gone up those stairs one additional time today and it now says 9.  I've rebooted, ensured was not too tight, swung my arm up at the top of the stairs which didn't work for me though apparently did for someone else and any other suggestions I saw here.  I had similar issues with a brand new Charge 3 which I returned and upgraded to the Versa yet the same issues.  I love the Versa though the inaccuracy of the stairs makes wonder if other items are just as off...bpm, calories, etc.  The steps are pretty darn close but I have no idea if anything else is on target.  Suggestions?

Sadly I have just condeded that the flights of stairs is a defect of the Versa. After reboot and factory default reset-- then another new device -- I still have regular inaccuracies with the flights of stairs.  At this point I am choosing to just keep a relative count on my own ("good enough for government") as the only option other than spending on another brand (not Fitbit) for a device that one hopes counts the stairs accurately.  I am carefully debating all I love about Fitbit versus the inaccuracy of the stairs in terms of when I make my next purchase. I don't know why this is not a more publicized issue. I do fly in planes a lot but still would think then this would be common for other fliers (and pilots, airline attendants, etc).

Thanks for the input. While frustrating I do like the Versa very much
so may change clock faces to one that doesn't show the stairs so that I
can ignore the inaccuracy more easily, lol.

My wife’s also did this. After some back and forth about it with Fitbit they replaced it in November. The new Versa just started way over counting flights of stairs. Don’t believe the weather excuse they give you. I was a weatherman for 37 years. There’s no way we had a pressure system low enough to account for 300+ flights of stairs in a flat environment. My wife even got 43 flights of stairs on less than 200 steps. That would require going up more than 2 feet for every one foot. Fitbit should offer a full refund to be applied to a Versa 2 or an Ionic. Clearly the Versa is defective.

Could this be an issue with the latest push? Mine was fine (versa 4) until a couple of weeks or so ago. Actually a few things may have changed... but 100 flights of stairs daily is not the deal.
