I just got the new Fitbit Versa, and it wasn't tracking my sleep. I called and called trying to figure out why. Finally I got a guy who said the Versa wasn't tracking my heart rate, and I had no idea why, I factory reset, I was wearing it not too tight, not too loose. Finally he asked me if I have tattoos on my wrist of my non-dominant arm, and I said yes, both arms are fully sleeved, he put me on hold, and came back asking if my tattoos have dark ink, I said yes, they are fully colored, bright. He again put me on hold, came back and said that the heart dept. of Fitbit explained that the green lights in the back of the Versa can't read my pulse through my ink. Making the Versa unfunctional for sleep patterns, and anything that requires a heart rate for reading. I.e- exercise, sleep, simply tracking my heart rate, and his only suggestion would be to try to wear it on my ankle for a better reading. No thank you. I will be returning it, since basically now it's just a $200 pedometer. Just an FYI. Tattoos effect functionality of a Versa worn over a tattoo with dark ink.

Do you have the update? because mine was not reading though the Tattoo ink until my firmware updated. IT WAS INFURIATING. This morning I did a factory reset, and now I have it right over my tattoo, and its working, in fact the entire thing seems to be working better. My firmware version is 32.32.10.20 ( mine bypassed the 32.32.10.15 everyone was talking about, with this version my fitbit works great.

Hey Guys,
Im just trying to gather some info on if/how many other people have got a new versa and then had the heart rate function not working over tattooed skin??
I have a sleeve and my new watch does not work properly over my tattoos and I'm pretty annoyed about it, I plan on emailing fitbit about it after I get an idea of how big this problem is.
Thanks!

Hey, please see this topic and my last post here: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Versa/Versa-vibrations-are-not-working/m-p/2698990#M17187
The Versa HR sensor does not work over tattooed skin.

I just bought my Versa today, and am experiencing the same issue most of the time as well.
I does, however, sometimes show my heart rate so I'm hoping the new firmware will resolve this completely.
Is there a way to already install this? I already did a factory reset, but it still only updates tk firmware .15 when reinstalling. 😞

If you put an epoxy sticker over the heart rate sensor it will work with tattoos- not clue why. Just does.

Hi, my Fitbit Versa version 32.10.15 is not tracking my heart rate and sleep pattern. I’m thinking it’s because I have both arms fully tattooed. This is really annoying, i feel like I’ve wasted £200!!! Is there anything that Fitbit can do to resolve this issue? If not I’ll be leaving Fitbit and I’ll buy an iWatch!!

Thanks for this! I’m having a few issues with sleep tracking and hr aswell. I have a black star on my wrist very close to my Versa which slip occasionally over it, think this is what’s causing it to cut out.
will try the epoxy stickers trick ty 😊
