Versa auto-recognizes a run after I walk (not run) for less than 5 minutes but auto-recog is off

I have a FitBit Versa (special edition). On my FitBit profile, I have turned off all exercise auto-recognition by changing the setting to "ignore" for each type of exercise.  After walking for about 4-5 minutes, however, my Versa vibrates and the screen shows "Run auto-detected" and has a ">" symbol for me to tap on to continue tracking the run.

  1. Why does the Versa think I'm running when I'm only walking? I realize I probably walk faster than the average person, but it's not even close to the pace of jog let along a run!
  2. Why does the Versa auto-detect a run, even though I have the auto-recognize settings for all exercises, including running, set to "ignore"?
  3. Why does this happen after less than 5 minutes of walking?  Even if I had exercise auto-recognition turned on, the shortest time available to have the device recognize an activity is 10 minutes.

@Christopher76 Welcome! Thanks for being part of our Community! Sorry to hear that your Versa is auto-recognizing your activity as a run activity. This is based on the settings you have on the Versa itself. Go to activities then run. There you can tap the gear icon at the top left corner. Where it says Run Detect switch it to off and this should avoid any more issues. If you wish you can also restart your Versa by doing the following:

1.- Press and hold the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. This should take less than 10 seconds.
2.- Let go of the buttons.
3.- If your Fitbit watch doesn't work normally, use the instructions in How do I turn off my Fitbit device? to turn your watch off and on again.

Let me know how it goes!

Since the last update, if I manually start a walk, Fitbit records it as a run. All autorecognitions of run are off. Have restarted the versa, uninstalled and installed the app.  Frankly, getting tired if wasting time trying to get versa to behave. There are more issues than I care to count, most of which were made worse with last update. Hopefully, Fitbit patches their errors soon.

I have the same problem as above. I start a walk or a hike in the fitbit app and when I'm done it's recorded as a run. It's annoying. I'm no runner but love walking. Now whenever I try to share my walks with fitbit friend's it says run on them.

It used to work fine. It's long past time that fitbit fixed what broke in the update.
