I have a reputation as a handy guy. As such people bring me their broken things and ask what I can do. This past week a friend brought me her Versa with a band issue. She told me she bought it new and has done nothing in the way of repair on it. Well the band separated at the pin.
As I looked at this it was apparent that someone had tried cynoacrolate (aka super glue) to repair the band. The head end of the band (where it attaches to the fitbit) had previously been torn away leaving nothing to encase the pin. From my review it appears that someone 1) put the pin in place, 2) held the band snug to the pin, and 3) filled the void with superglue.
Taking her at we word means she would have bought it with this repair in place. That means it was a factory repair OR that this was a returned unit sent through a refurbishing and sold again as new. Has anyone else ever seen this?

My bad. After posting, I grabbed her fitbit and pulled the other band. I now see that a acrylic, polycarbonate or lexan barrel is bonded to the silicone band. That barrel just failed. We were in the process of ordering a new band anyway, so all is good.
Still if you look at the failed band AND witnessed the struggle I had getting the old barrel separated from the fitbit and pin, you would have thought the same.
