I just noticed that on my stats from a recent run, fitbit said I burned a total of 280 calories for 39 minutes. It also says I was burning 5.2 calories per minute. Shouldn't my total only be around 208? Where did the other 70 calories come from?

The per minute figure is an average. You typically burn more at the peak of an activity and an avg/min is lower. Remember too there is a "baseline" of calories your body burns without activity - typically 100 per hour based on your height/weight/gender to pump blood, breath, etc,
Check out the 39 minute activity chart on your fitbit page from a computer. If you click "more detail" on the chart, a Java scroll allows you to mouse through the activity line. The bottom detail is the ever changing calories per minute. Hope this helps better explain, keep moving.
