I got my Fitbit recently and can’t get the hang of the calories burned! When I wake up in the morning it says about 400 calories but I wanted to see how many I’ve burned during the day, or after a workout? can anyone help me understand this please.

As well as tracking calories burned through activity your fitbit also tracks your BMR calories. These are the calories you burn just keeping your body alive (even when asleep). They are calculated from your profile settings for age, height, weight etc so you needn't be wearing your fitbit to get them. What you are seeing includes the total BMR calories burned since midnight.
Unfortunately, you can't exclude these calories from your daily total but you can get the calories for a specific activity (including the BMR calories for the duration of the activity) by using the track exercise app on your fitbit.
