Let's try default settings.
1. Please open your Fitbit mobile app, tap on Versa and scroll down to Notification section under General.
2. Open Notifications and make sure Text Messages notifications use DEFAULT text messaging app on your device (or Google Messages). Do not use textra. It should look more or less like this:
3. Please open Android Settings and scroll down to Notifications section:
4. Open Notifications and scroll down to the application you have set as your texting app in the Fitbit mobile app.
5. Make sure that notifications for this app are set as URGENT or HIGH importance. On my device it looks like this but yours may be slightly different:
If you could post any screen grabs and your device model and operating system, it would be helpful. Please take a screenshot of Fitbit mobile app notifications settings and your android notifications setting.

Welcome to the Community @CKTK23 and @Marrrmaduke thanks for the input.
As our friend here, I need more information too. Are you receiving your notifications but can't read them on your watch, could you please be more specific? Which are the apps you are having issues with? In the meantime, try the steps in the help article My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone.
Hope to hear from you soon.

@CKTK23 do you mean you feel versa vibrate, but when you lift your hand to wake up the watch, there's no notification? Have you tried swiping down or long pressing the top right button? Can you see the notification then?

@CKTK23 Try long pressing top right button. This will bring up preview of all notifications. Then, tap on the notification you want to read. It will get maximized on the screen. You will be able to read, and if the app that sent the notification allows it, reply. Just as a side note, if you dismiss the notification on your phone you will not be able to access it on Fitbit.

@CKTK23 what happens when you tap on the notification when it appears on your fitbit?
ETA: Also does it happen for all notifications? For example, does it happen for TXT messages? Some apps like Facebook Messenger do not allow content preview.

@CKTK23 yay!!! 😊😊😊 First preset your quick replies. In order to do that open Fitbit mobile app, tap on Versa and go to Notifications section under General. Scroll down to Quick Replies and open it. Choose the application you want to edit (for example your TXT messages app) and type your quick replies. You can pick 5 replies. Fitbit has them preset but you can change the text. When done, tap back arrow to return to dashboard screen. Sync your Fitbit.
When the notification arrives on your Fitbit, tap to open the message. You should be able to see body of the message along with buttons 'Reply', "Mark as Read' and 'Clear'. Tap reply and select one of your preset quick replies.

I am having the same issue. Except, when I click on my message on my versa. It opens it on my cell phones versus my watch. I want to be able to read it on my watch that way I won't have to pull my cell phone out just to read the message.
