If one should clean this hole to improve stair counting how does one do that without pushing whatever might be in the hole, if anything, into the device?

Hi,  the altimeter is a very small hole in one on the back of your watch and it's one of the sensors. I would use a soft cotton cloth to clean it.

Edit: Probably it is not necessary at all to clean the altimeter, once you regularly clean the back of your watch. I clean the back of my watch every two days and even every day after heavy duty workouts.

Hi @bbran. I would NOT use compressed air because it can go into that hole with a great deal of pressure, possibly damaging the unit. Fitbit’s official word is this:

Note: Fitbit devices that count floors have a small hole (altimeter sensor) on the back of the device. Don’t insert any items, such as paper clips, into this hole as you can damage your device.

More information is available here. I’d hate to see you void the warranty or damage your Versa. Perhaps a moderator will step in with an official answer. @MarcoFitbit?

I asked this question because cleaning the hole was one of many suggestions from a Fitbit community response to correct inaccurate floor counts.  Seems that suggestion and those here are inconsistent.

Thank you! This worked for me! I got lotion in the little hole. I didn’t even know the hole was there😬I took a toothpick and very carefully picked it out!

trying out the same thing right now, at the moment. my fitbit sense hasnt been able to register any floors since June of 2022. hopefully this fixes it. im also using simply floors app to register the pressure between rooms and outside as well. there was another forum that suggested to download this app to test out the sensor to see if it is working.
