Versa counting steps during a motorcycle ride.

Hello,

I just purchased a Fitbit Versa 2 days ago and have found that like so many others it is counting steps when I ride my motorcycle. I feel as if all the complaints of this issue have fallen on def ears, as other smart watch manufacturers have negated this issue long ago. I understand Fitbit’s fix for this is a manual entry under activities as “motorcycle” and it dose work. However in today’s vast pool of technology and programming that a manual entry is less that realistic as the average per will not take the time to do this and will only result in loosing users to another brand.

The engineers at Fitbit need to step it up!! I believe this problem could be fix by simply accounting for the heart rate and speed of travel to auto sense a driving activity. Don’t get me wrong I am no engineer but I am a certified diesel tech and with the technology I see in new semi trucks I see no issue why this is not an easier fix than a manual entry! If the Fitbit can sense when I am in fact on a bicycle ride, a walk or even swimming then I find it hard to believe their can not be a fix for this seemingly minor glitch. Don’t stop now engineers, Find your fit!

In short I like the product, but this needs a true fix. The price point over other products is right on, and information gathering is awesome!

Hi there, I ride a scooter to and from work and it counts as flights of stairs.  Nothing I have done prevents this.  Surely the easiest answer is to develop an app or add an option to disable or remove tracking for a period of time?  I find changing the activity to "driving" does not change the step count or the stairs climbed at all.

Still no answer. I am ready to toss this thing and downvote it on as many online shopping sites as possible. I have to go into settings/about/shutdown every time I go for a ride to prevent it from counting steps. Garbage.

I am experencing this issue as well. It is very annoying. I have ridden with a Versa and Ionic and never experienced this issue. I understand how it might confuse a trail ride but am mystified how it thinks a highway ride at 70 mph is a bike ride is beyond me.

I was looking into buying the Versa 2 and I thought I'd better check the forums regarding this issue before committing to buying another FitBit watch as I had this exact same problem with my Charge 2 a couple of years ago. Looks like the problem has still not been fixed even with the release of newer models and app updates. I complained at the time but it fell on deaf ears. I'll now go research the Apple Watch and Garmin

Hey Fitbit,

you promised to update us with a solution ONE AND A HALF YEARS AGO. We all bought a premium device and are left alone with this ridiculous issue.

Please respond!

Still no answer?  My Versa of 2 years gave up the ghost all of a sudden. I’m in the market for another smart watch. If this is not fixed, I will look elsewhere or just wear my Wyze Band.

where are you Fitbit Moderator???

Please!  Fix the app and and send an update!  I shouldn't have to remember I'm hiking now so turn the auto off an I'm done hiking turn the auto back on.

My wife found the answer to this and it is to charge the Fitbit while riding. I use the power socket on my bike but you could use a portable charger. I bought a spare charger and used a glue pad to attach it to the bodywork and plugged a USB adapter into the socket.  The genius is that when its charging it does not count anything. Hope this helps.

I don’t think I’d consider that a solution. It’s like “if you don’t like that it counts activity while you ride, just turn it off”

By the way, from what I can see, it’s now 5 years since this was first reported.
I think that itself speaks volumes. Either this forum is unmonitored, Fitbit doesn’t care what problems get reported here, or, Fitbit is completely aware of this issue and just doesn’t care.
I’ve tried to be a fan, but every issue I’ve ever had (two distinct problems) has been greeted with this kind of indifference. Looks like Garmin or Apple for my next purchase.

I moved on to Apple watch a long time ago.  Seeing this post resurrected proves I made the right choice.  What a joke.
