Had my Versa for 2 days and it's counting over double the steps I'm walking. Any ideas?

I have woken up on 3 different mornings and my Fitbit Versa has counted over 10 thousand steps. My Fitbit is only about a week old. I’m going to try to charge it over night somewhere else (although it wasn’t near a fan etc) If this continues I’ll have to contact Fitbit. Thanks everyone for sharing the tips and anymore you can share 🙂

My Fitbit Versa, purchased only a few days ago has continually logged excessive steps and stair climbs. Yesterday while driving for three hours & sitting in a lecture theatre for the rest of the day, I managed to achieve 12,000 steps and an impressive 36 stairs climbed. Today, another 3 hour drive and a small amount of walking and it reckons ive climbed 17 stairs. I’m reallydisappointed as it’s such a nice looking watch but based on my experience and that of others, it’s actually a piece of crap and I’ll be returning it.

Have you figured out how to solve this? I went from 6000 to 11000. I’m sitting on my bed and it goes up 9 steps. So confused

I’ve seen people referring to various resets etc but I’m not willing to continually faff about with this product to get it to do the job I paid over $250 for it to do. Sorry. Mine is going back.

I have tried resetting my fit bit and I had charged it in literally every different outlet it my house. Continued to wake up to have 30K steps on most mornings! I have contacted Fitbit twice. They wanted to go through the trouble shooting so I did. Since my Fitbit was still only a few weeks old they have sent me a new one. I’m realky hoping that a new one will solve all these issues. I do have to say that their customer service was really impressive and they were great to deal with!

Did you fix your issue

I bought a fitbit versa yesterday today I've been sat in bed and it says I've done 745 steps and not climbed any stairs when I've been up and down twice

No it appears in fixable from the forum discussions. No one has claimed a fix for their unit.

I had the same problem. I would drive to work and it would say I had 22 flights ! I had to call the company and they ended up having to send me 2 new ones. I am on my second one they sent now and I will see if it does the same. I would definitely call them

Looks like you are more active than you thought LOL

Well I am Going to try and be helpful. Devices like these measure motion and correlate it to steps and miles. If you are a nervous person and fidget bounce your legs and exhibit excess engergy in these actions it counts these. Believe it or not that’s good because you are expending energy and burning calories. The up and down stair issues not good with it’s an altitude thing and needs to

be calibrated. Al

I just got my Fitbit for Christmas and was at first really happy with all the steps I was taking until it started to be so different from what my Apple phone and my Pacer app was tracking. I’m hitting like 15,000 steps on my Fitbit but am only doing around 5000 steps as per my phone... my go has always been 10,000 steps which on a day to day basis is a challenge to hit but I’m exceeding that regularly. I feel like I’ve bought into BS and wish I’d bought an iWatch instead.

I have the same problem with the Versa counting steps that didn't happen. I experimented and found that while sitting in a chair and just swinging only the arm with the Versa on it, back and forth like when walking, it recorded each swing as two new steps! Happens consistently when making repetitive arm movements (even pumping weights), and intermittently when making any arm movement at all. I guess those of us having problems with the Versa shouldn't be moving our arms if we're not out walking. I don't see how Fitbit can fix this. I don't think it's possible for the Versa to determine if the rest of your body is moving along with your arm. I think it can only go by the rhythm of your arm movement being similar to that when you're walking, and records it as a step. My guess as to why some people have problems and others don't, has to do with the rhythm they make, or don't make with their arm movements.
