While my steps seem to be accurate, my battery life remains less 25% of what is was before. I have not changed any settings so please don’t suggest that is the reason. I still have to unlock it with the pin each time though I have not taken it off. And, no activity with hourly steps is being tracked.

Let me help you with your Versa's battery not lasting as long as it did. Try cleaning the contacts using cotton swab with rubbing alcohol, then charge it by plugging it for a couple of hours directly to your computer's USB port (try different ports) or use an UL-certified USB adapter. After this, restart your device and see how it behaves. You can follow these instructions to help improve the battery life.
