Versa frozen during update

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Today, I had a weird flicker with my screen on my new Versa.  I did a factory reset on the device and now it won't update properly.

I have tried everything, unpaired it with my phone, uninstalled the app and reinstalled.  It seems to not want to connect to my wifi network now.

Hi, remember that once you did a factory reset, your Versa acts like being new and never has been set up. So, after a reset, you will need to go to the entire setup procedure to your phone again. Did you do that? If, yes and only WiFi is not working, do the following:

1. In the Fitbit app on your phone, go to the page were Clock Faces are shown

2. Scroll down to WiFi settings and press it.

3. Do you see your home network there? If not, turn on your WiFi of your device and press add new network.

4. When the screen shows up to add a network, enter manually the name of your router and it's password (Capital sensitive) and when you're done press "add".

5, When your network shows up in this screen, you will seen a white icon on the right side of you network's name. Press that and Fitbit will start connecting to it.

6. Once the connection is established, the white icon turns to blue and it will say connected.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Hey!  Thanks for the tips.

I ended up chatting with Fitbit support for a couple hours and we couldn't get it working.  The rep suspected some kind of hardware failure so he suggested a replacement.  I just took it back to Bestbuy for an exchange and am currently getting the new one set up slowly.

Thanks again

This whole scenario is really quite frustrating.

The new Versa has been trying to update for over an hour now and it's still not halfway through the progress bar...

The first time, it updated very fast on the last one that failed, but this one is horrible.  Everything I read online says it should take 10 minutes.

Honestly, as much as I like this thing, I would never buy one again just from my experience today.  And I really liked it when I woke up this morning.

Hi, you already have a new one? Just one more question: are you talking about updating to the newest Firmware?

Yes, updating to the newest firmware that it requires when the device is brand new.  Initial update or whatever it's called.  I just rebooted the phone and restarted the fitbit to try this again.

If it doesn't work properly, I'm just returning it to Bestbuy for a refund this time...

It doesn't seem to be connecting to my wifi.  The one I just returned today had connected no problem when I first got it.

That one failed and after a factory reset would not connect.  This new one will not connect either.

I have a very expensive Asus gaming router with fiber optic service, there is no reason it shouldn't be working.

Hi, that's a very fast action from Fitbit. Have a look at a little guide I made for updating to the new Firmware:

Following is a list of instruction to get your device updated to the newest Firmware (this assumes that you know how to setup your Versa to your phone):

1. Prepare your Versa carefully before starting the update, e.g. switch to a clock face from Fitbit itself if you are using a third party one, and charge the Versa fully.

2. As a safety precaution: reboot it and put it in the charger and connect it to your laptop and leave it there during the entire updating procedure (the manual says that this is not necessary, but I found out by trial and error that it makes udating safer and faster). Also make sure that your mobile device/Fitbit app is connected to Wifi during the entire procedure by plugging your MD in your laptop. Go to settings in the Fitbit app and to Wifi settings, go to your network and on the right side of the name of your network there is a white icon. Click that and Fitbit will start connecting to your network. Once connected, the white icon turns to blue and it will say "Connected"

3. Start the update, which will be done over WiFi which is much faster that BT.

4. When the update is finished , you should have the new version on your Versa, to check this:

5. Go to settings on your Versa and about info Versa (Fitbit app shows it already) and it tells you that you have version 32.331.30.

Just one warning: make sure that your Versa is in the charger and connected to your PC during the entire process as well as you mobile device. Why is this necessary? The Versa on it's own does not have Wifi, but uses either your phone or PC as a bridge to be connected to WiFi. Whenever you disconnect during this procedure the Versa, your wiFi connection will be lost within 1 minute.

Hey, thanks for trying to help.  I appreciate it.

I'm doing the things on your list but for some reason my Versa will not properly connect to my wifi.  It sees the network on the list and I select it and enter the password.  But, once it does it's thing, it the connection icon on the right is grayed out and says its out of range...

It's like I got two lemons in a row that won't connect via wifi.  Maybe it's something bugged in my app, but I already reinstalled that once...

Bleh.

How close is your phone and Versa to the router and are there any other BT enabled devices in the vicinity. In the last case, replace all devices far out of reach of your phone or switch BT of these devices off.

BTW, after having entered your password, did you press "save", if yes and it still does not work,do the following:

1. Press the tree point on the right on top of the screen and press "Add network manually".

2. Enter the name and password of your network manually (mind you this is Capital Sensitive) and press save. The white icon should appear right next to your networks's name. Press it and Fitbit will start connecting. Once established, the white icon turn to blue and says "connected".

Hope this will work for you, good luck! Going to bed now cause it's way past midnight here. Tomorrow  I will be available again.

Thanks again for the friendly advice.

For future reference for anyone else who searches this topic.  I finally got my Versa to connect to wifi.

I had rebooted my router as a last resort and it for some reason connected after that.

The symptom before hand was that it would see the network, allow me to enter password, but then just show the network name but no connection and say it's out of range.  After the reboot, it connected and showed the blue icon and connected there as it should.

It doesn't make much sense because the network was not having a problem, my phone and a dozen other devices were reliably connected to it.  There seems to be some kind of software glitch with the Versa wifi connection and I suspect because it had a "Versa" connected once before it wouldn't connect again?

Strange issue but I'm glad I got it working.  I seriously will avoid ever doing a factory reset again, like the plague.

I have been having this  SAME EXACT issue. I was issued a replacement but it's not here yet. I have literally tried EVERYTHING even spent 40mins on the phone with Fitbit going over all of these things and nothing has worked. I'm restarting my router now trying this. Finger's crossed! I 🤞
