Versa - how to start sleep manually

I'm looking for specific step by step instructions to start my Sleep manually for my Versa. Can it be done using a PC, Iphone, Ipad and/or on my Versa itself?. The latter being the most logical and preferred. My sleep tracking starts about 1am even though I go to bed at 10ish. The 1st night it tracked the full correct time, since then [about 6 days]  it starts way late. I see references in other discussion to starting sleep manually but without the "how" being stated.

You can log your sleep manually, using the + sign on the sleep tile of your mobile device.

It's a way to log sleep without wearing your Fitbit, too.

@SteveNHME  I lust want to add that if you start and stop your sleep from the app, you will get sleep patterns and NOT sleep stages.  See this Help article.  The reference is near the bottom of the article.

 

My sleep tracking has been kind of wonky with my Versa.  Start times are often wrong.  Sleep gets broken into two chunks of time, yet I slept through the night. 

 

I have been browsing the threads to see if bad sleep tracking is a common issue.  This doesn't seem to be a big issue, but I am sure that there are more people than you and I. 

 

I want my sleep stages, so I am left with editing my sleep log every time it is wrong.

@SteveNHME I always just correct the sleep record itself. I do this on the webpage. Just hover over the sleep tile till you see See More and click on that. Then click on the previous night's sleep record. You should see the times off to the right. You can adjust them there. Then F5 refresh to see the new information. This generally allows me to keep the sleep stages, too.

This can also be done through the app.

Or use the start sleep function which will be found when following @Odyssey13 instructions above.

Thank you folks for your replies, I've read them, used the links provided, but I'm missing a basic understanding of how things work and hang together. 

I see the words patterns and stages and assume that the patterns form once a sufficient number stages have been recorded. It's the "recording" that confuses me. I get that the Versa can record stages and the times associated with them. I'd assumed that since I don't see any recording for the missing start times, that my editing the log to change the start isn't going yield any meaningful stage data. HOWEVER, I decided to edit my log for last night which said I started at 1AM. I edited the log to change the start time to 10:30pm. It warned me that IF I changed the log I would lose my date. I said "what the hell, so what", and made the change.  I didn't not appear to lose anything which only deepens my confusion of how this hangs together. But ah, this get better.

After I changed the start time the graph showed some stage data which is scarily correct for what I knew about the first 2+ hours after I went to bed. I'd had some work management issues on my mind which work me up 30 minutes into my sleep and had me awake for just about an hour and half. The log showed light sleep for that 30 minutes and awake for about an hour and twenty minutes, then light sleep to where 1am started  How or where was the extremely accurate missing stage pattern stored. None of my other days were like that and I seldom every have issues keep me awake. Other than "I" knew this detail, how did "it" know that detail?  Color me confused.

@SteveNHME  You are not alone in your confusion over how this all works.  I can say that a "block" of sleep must be at least three hours long to get sleep stages.  Why?  My son is a software engineer -- when I ask him questions about things like this, he smiles and says, "Mom, it's proprietary."  How do things hang together?  It's proprietary.

 

Obviously, a lot of data is stored and not lost when editing a sleep log.  I recently had a sleep log that was broken into two blocks.  The first block was short and had sleep patterns.  The second block was longer and had sleep stages.  I deleted the first block, then edited the start time of the second block to the real start time.  I didn't lose anything AND (voilà) had complete sleep stages for the entire night.  Go figure.

 

I do need to update my comment about problems with Versa sleep tracking.  There a long thread started in April about inaccurate sleep tracking.

 

My advice for now is to edit your inaccurate sleep logs through the app.  If you start/stop through the app, you will get patterns, not stages.

I’ve been a software guy for over 40 years so I understand proprietary.  I’m also very mechanically minded. Until I see a diagram of all the gears and levers or look at the machine guts itself or the logic flow chart of how the software works I have a tough time taking somethings on Faith as to how the controls I’m given can work to achieve changes in operation. It’s clear I need read more references. Thanks for concurring with what I’ve observed
