Versa is syncing but I'm not getting text notifications

Got my Versa yesterday and so far I am loving it. The only issue I have is I wasn't getting text notifications or anything so I went into the Fitbit app and it said I still needed to pair my phone and Fitbit, it is syncing fine but it just doesn't want to connect. I have a pair of headphones connected to my Fitbit and they work fine so I just don't understand why it isn't connecting to my phone.

Hey @eable1997, welcome to the Community and congrats on getting a new Fitbit Versa! Smiley Very Happy So your Versa is paired and syncing however you are not receiving any type of notification, right? If so, let me suggest you something, please make sure you follow this process to set up the notifications between your watch and your iOS device:

Have your phone and Fitbit device nearby. Setup may take a few minutes.

STEP 1. VERIFY YOUR PHONE SETTINGS

Open the Settings app to review your phone settings.

User-added image

Confirm or adjust these settings:

  • Bluetooth—Bluetooth technology allows your phone to communicate with the Fitbit device. Verify that Bluetooth is on.
  • Do Not Disturb—This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off
  • Notifications—Your phone must be set to receive notifications before they can be sent to your Fitbit device. Check these settings:
    • For Phone, Calendar, and Messages, make sure Allow Notifications and Show in History are on.
    • For Messages, also make sure Show on Lock Screen and Show as Banners are on.
    • If your Fitbit device can receive app notifications make sure you can receive app notifications on your phone. For example, you can receive Facebook notifications on your Fitbit device, but only if you also receive them on your phone. Find the notifications permissions under Settings > Notifications and use the same settings you used for Messages.

STEP 2. SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP

Set up the notifications you want to receive on your wrist. Make sure your charged Fitbit device is nearby.

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon User-added image
  2. Tap Notifications. If you're prompted to pair your Fitbit device, follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Turn each notification category on or off depending on your preferences. If you want to see calendar notifications, make sure any other calendar apps are synced with your default calendar app. Only the default app sends notifications.
  4. If your Fitbit device can receive notifications from other apps on your phone, tap App Notifications and make your choices. If an installed app is missing from the list, sync your device and then check again.
  5. Sync your device.

You're done setting up. Notifications should appear on your device when it's near your phone (about 30 feet). If notifications are delayed or missing, see My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone.

STEP 3. TURN ON THE DEVICE'S NOTIFICATION SETTING

Blaze, Charge 2, Ionic, Versa, and Surge have a Notification setting on the device. To verify that it's on

  • Ionic & Versa—Press and hold the back button and swipe left to access the quick settings screen. Make sure you can receive notifications from your phone.

Notifications should appear on your device when it's near your phone (about 30 feet). If notifications are delayed or missing, see My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

If my phone is on silent I will not get notifications, but if if is on vibrate or sound I will. I have a Samsung galaxy s7. Sometimes it is spotty and myfitness pal still does not sync right sometimes.

Hey @pittnurse256, let me give you a warm welcome to the Community! Don't you worry my friend, our team is already aware of this issue and currently working on a fix so all of you can get your notifications back whenever in "Silent mode". I don't have the specific date for this to be released so in the meantime I will ask you to be patient. In the meantime, take a look at this thread so you can stay tune about updates on this.

If you have further questions, let me know!

ok thank you! It also is spotty recording steps into myfitness pal-some
days it does and some days it does not no matter how many times you sync
it. Are you aware of this as well?
Best Answer

@HeydyF Wait, is this confirmed? This is the first mention I have heard of notifications being worked on. Thank you!

Thanks for your response @pittnurse256! If the data isn't syncing well with your MyFitnessPal app, I recommend you to re-link the two accounts by doing the following:

1. Sign into your Fitbit dashboard.
2. Click the gear icon in the upper right corner and select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
3. On the left side of your screen click "Applications."
4. Under MyFitnessPal, click "Revoke Access."
5. You can then re-link the two accounts by going to http://www.fitbit.com/apps/myfitnesspal.

After relinking, you can verify that your accounts are syncing by using one of the following data points:

1. On Fitbit you can check for your meal summary and logged activities from MFP.
2. On MyFitnessPal, go to "My Home," then "Check-In." You should see your weight, Fitbit Steps, and Fitbit Sleep Minutes.

@sygyzy, how are you today? What is confirmed is that the this is an issue Android system, however, I don't when this will be finally resolved. But as soon as I have news, I'll let you know. 😉 You can also take a look at the thread I previously posted.

Have a nice day guys!

@HeydyFThanks-I have done the linking and unlinking several times and it is still spotty.

Thanks for trying the steps I suggested you my friend @pittnurse256! Since your Fitbit is syncing fine, but the data from MyFitnessPal doesn't, I recommend you to visit their website, https://www.myfitnesspal.com/, to get further assistance.

Have a nice day!

Hey there! I got one text message on my Versa last night (brand new) and haven't received a text notification since...I did get a voice call through the watch, but not seeing any texts.. should I return it?

Also- how do I get twitter and facebook on the versa??

Best Answer

@HReiser - after you try the standard help that everyone gives you (reset, reboot, restore, re-install, etc) make sure you do the following:

  • Phone must not be in DND or Silent mode unless you have the new mobile app with the feature to always vibrate
  • Make sure notifications are on in the Fitbit app
  • For app specific notifications like Twitter and Facebook, just configure it in the Notifications configuration screen in the Versa options

Thanks! what is the new mobile app with the feature to always vibrate?

You didn't specify if you are using an iPhone or Android but the new Android app added an option to always notify even if your phone is in silent or Do Not Disturb. To me, this is a great option that fixed nearly all my notification issues. I am always on DND or Silent because I rarely want my phone to buzz or make a sound during work, at dinner, etc. But I still want to discreetly receive notifications (on my wrist).

ah...im using iOS- any thoughts there?

I don't follow iOS development so just wait for the new app (if that feature is even coming to iOS). But in the meantime, just keep your phone off silent or DND mode.

Hi! I have tried every single one of these troubleshooting options and cannot get my calls, texts, and calendar events. My other apps like snapchat and facebook will get notifications but I would really like to see my texts! Anyone?

I am having the same issue.  All notifications come through, but no text messages.  Why and how do I fix this with my Versa?

Best Answer

I just received a Fitbit Versa for Mother's Day, but I cannot get text notifications from my phone to appear on my Versa. I have gone through all of the steps and I even got a new phone (Samsung S9), but I am still not receiving text notifications. It will notify me when a call is coming in, but no texts. HELP!

Im having the same problem no text notifications. Very frustrated.  Using verizon messages. Get all other notifacations but texts

I've tried all of the tips to getting notifications to come through my Versa, even factory resetting and restarting the entire sinking process and I'm still not receiving text notifications. Phone calls and emails come through just fine, but not a single text. I have Verizon and an Android, I've even tried changing from message + to messages and neither work.
