Versa keeps telling me to download the app

 Android 8

Moto Z Play Droid

Fitbit Versa

I downloaded the app, followed all the instructions, tried all the trouble shooting ideas, and my Versa still won't work. It just keeps telling me to download the app to get started. It won't download the update either. I can sync my phone and versa, but that's it.

I just bought a fitbit and it is the only smart watch that will fit my small wrist. Can anyone tell me how to get it to connect to my Android Moto Z2 Play? It says on the box it will connect to Andriod and it is not working....Help please. Thanks

@Yates I feel confused. How come it syncs with your phone if it hasn't been set up yet (display Setup message)? Can you please take a screenshot of your Fitbit mobile app window and a picture of your Versa's display?

@sovs09 What steps did you perform? What's your Versa displaying? What about Fitbit app? Please take a screenshot of your Fitbit mobile app window and a picture of your Versa's display. FYI, Moto Z2 Play is not on the compatible devices list. It does not mean it will not work. It means hasn't been tested and not all features might work as designed.

I can't get that update to download. I left my Versa at home so no pic of the display.

I've deleted and re download the app, turned my phone on and off, had my phone forget my Versa twice and started over next to my router, my bluetooth is on and I've done the on/off to that too.

@Yates I'm assuming you're performing update over wifi. Make sure you have a strong signal (both devices near the router) and don't forget to put Versa in the charger. It connects to wifi only when plugged. Reboot versa, reboot the phone, sync, versa in the charging dock, and download update.

@Yates Does your Versa sync? it shows only 63 steps and it's after 12 PM. When was the last sync? It seems like there's no stable BT connection. Try this:

  1. Unpair (remove) Versa from your phone's bluetooth settings
  2. Reboot your phone.
  3. Reboot your Versa by pressing and holding the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo flashes. Do not pair the tracker in your phone's bluetooth settings. The trick here is to not pair in phone Bluetooth settings but rather let the Fitbit mobile app do that.
  4. Open Fitbit mobile app
  5. Verify you have added Wifi network in your Fitbit mobile app
  6. Sync
  7. Put Versa in the charger near the router
  8. Try to install the update.

If this does not work, you can try downloading the update on different Wifi, e.g. at your work or friend's place.
