Versa lots of problems

I purchased my versa less than a week ago and was so excited to finally have a smart watch.

But my excitement has turned to tears! after a day of working fine, it has gone belly up and nothing works properly

when i flick my wrist to check the time, it does not light up and i have to do it multiple times

does not sync, today it took me 45 minutes to sync it - i had to go through all the support advice

my steps are all wonky, i am doing lots of steps apparently, in the thousands! which unfortunately is not true

my heart rate is now not showing up either

all of the above are the basics that you expect from a smart watch, and honestly i spend a lot more time trying to make this watch work than actually enjoy it. I feel so cheated 😞

@Nalan77 Ok, let's start from the basics. What's your phone model and OS? As per Versa lightning up, press and hold the left button to access quick menu. Toggle Screen Wake several times between Manual and Auto. Make sure it's set to Auto at the end. Also, reboot your tracker several times by pressing and holding the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo appears.

Re heart rate, could you please elaborate? If you open Today app on your Versa (swipe up on the main screen) and scroll down to the heart rate section, can you see the HR there or just "--"? If you see, "--" please press the left button once to exit Today app, open Settings app on your Versa (looks like a gear cog) and scroll down to Heart Rate. Toggle it OFF/ON several times (make sure it's ON at the end) and reboot your tracker as described above.

When you provide me with your phone model and OS, we can attempt to restore the bluetooth connectivity which is required for proper sync and notifications.

@Nalan77 Were you able to make heart rate work with the tips I provided in my earlier post? Are the sensor lights blinking? To restore bluetooth connectivity, please try this:

  1. Unpair (remove) Versa from your phone's bluetooth settings
  2. Uninstall the Fitbit mobile app
  3. Reboot your phone and install Fitbit mobile app. Do not pair in your phone's bluetooth settings. The trick here is to not pair in phone Bluetooth settings but rather let the Fitbit mobile app do that.
  4. Reboot your Versa by pressing and holding the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo flashes
  5. Login to Fitbit mobile app
  6. Grant all permissions and sync
  7. Make sure that Sync Service notification for Fitbit mobile app has the priority set to at least HIGH (this can be done in the Android settings>Notifications>Fitbit)
  8. Make sure All-day sync, Always Connected are enabled in the Fitbit mobile app. Make sure to sync after enabling them.

Additional tips if sync issues persist: If you have Wifi set up, go to Fitbit mobile app and remove it, then sync your Versa. I noticed that it causes issues for me. If you have other Bluetooth devices paired with your phone, forget them. One of them might be causing issues.

If you have issues with the notifications, please do the following:

  1. Turn OFF the Notifications in your Fitbit mobile app and on your Versa, reboot your phone and Versa, and turn the notifications back ON on both devices.
  2. Make sure the notifications are ON on your Versa. Press and hold the left button to access quick menu. Turn the notifications to ON.
  3. In the Fitbit mobile app, make sure you enabled the notifications and that Fitbit notification service is enabled in your phone settings. It needs to be ON.
  4. If your phone is in DND or silent mode, make sure Always vibrate option is enabled in your Fitbit mobile app. Also, it's always a good idea to toggle on/off notifications in the Fitbit mobile app with sync in-between.
  5. Make sure that any app you would like to receive notifications for on your Versa has the push notifications priority set to at least HIGH (this can be done in the Android settings>Notifications). Please see my post here for more info.
  6. Also, please make sure Fitbit mobile app is not being optimized by Android (Android settings>Battery>Optimization>Fitbit needs to be marked as not optimized).
  7. Finally, Oppo and OP phones are known for extremely aggressive power management. Anything remotely more active gets killed including Fitbit mobile app. You may need to lock the app in the background by using screen pinning. Please see my post here.

If everything fails and sync is still not stable, perform factory reset as described here, and/or downgrade fitbit mobile app to version 2.74.2.
