I changed the band on my Versa and I notice my activity and steps are not counting correctly. Could changing the band have anything to do with that? it worked well before the change.

Hi, two things:
1. Try restarting your Versa several times in a row by pressing and holding the left and right lower buttons together untill you see the Fitbit logo and release the buttons. that shoul in principle solve the problem, when not:
2 Are you using a Third Party Clock Face (see this topic about these clocks)? If yes, install a clock face created by Fitbit itself, restart your Versa and see in the problems are solved.
