Versa not logging all of my floors

While I understand and accept we can't log the floor counts manually, I'm frustrated with my Versa not consistently acknowledging the floors I count.

My office is on the first floor and I often pop down to bring something up. It tends to miss every other time I walk up the stairs until I've done this 4 times then it catches every floor I make after that.

It doesn't make any sense why it would catch some of the data and miss other. I always have my Versa with me, so it's not like I'm taking it off to charge and forget.

Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks

Hey @Omey, welcome to the Fitbit forums! Fitbit devices that count floors have an altimeter sensor that can detect when you're going up or down in elevation. Your device registers one floor when you climb about 10 feet at one time. It does not register floors when you go down. That being said, if you are meeting with those requirements but your Versa still not tracking your floors accurately, let me suggest you to try to restart it by following the instructions in this post.

What do you suggest if restarting my device still doesn't work to improve the accuracy?  I live in a two-story house -- so am up and down my stairs many, many times a day -- and my device registers, on average, two flights of stairs -- which I know isn't right.

Floors not receive information tried restarting and resetting

Hey guys, @John291 and @karyt, welcome to the Community!

I'd like you to take into consideration that Fitbit devices that have the altimeter sensor, can detect when you're going up or down in elevation. Your device registers one floor when you climb about 10 feet at one time. It does not register floors when you go down. Your device uses changes in barometric pressure to detect elevation change, and therefore requires that you physically change elevation in order to properly record floors.

On the other hand, if you already tried to restart your Versa to improve it's accuracy, I really appreciate it.

It did not help.  My house is 2 stories -- 13 steps from main floor to 2nd floor (so more than 10 feet....) where my bedroom is and my fitbit NEVER registers any floors, even though I go upstairs at least 10 times a day if not more.....

Hey @karyt, thanks for your response! Let's take a look at some other factors that could be affecting your Versa from counting floors, as follows:

- Make sure that the latest Firmware is installed on your Versa

- Make sure that the latest app version is installed on your Android phone as well

Once both things are updated, please use your Versa as usual and let me know how it goes!

This should not be marked resolved... none of these steps worked for me. It is counting maybe one out of every three floors no matter how much i stomp and swing my arm. Yes, 13 steps in my staircase, check before and after i start. Maddening!

I have done all of this and still not registering correctly.

I too have followed all the advice given and still, it doesn't register all the floors climbed.

I simply can not understand why it registers some but not all

I saw in another thread a user ... i kid you not ... lifts her fitbit arm once she reaches the last step and sort of hits (or taps) the top of her head. So far this has worked for me about 4 times though to say the least not ideal!

Still missing some with the head tap (I do a double tap just to be sure). It's now registering about 3 out of every 4 or 5 flights.

Fitbit Versa is not counting floors accurately. It misses almost 50% of the time. I saw some improvement in the count when I climb stairs from my basement to the first floor - which is strange because the number of stairs are less. At this point, this feature is not usable/reliable in Fitbit. If anyone finds a solution, please share.

Who marks this solution as accepted? Pretty lame!

I don’t know why this says “solved”. It is clearly still a problem. My Versa misses most of my floors. I came here to try and find help. I will try the tapping my head at the top and see if that helps, but that is really lame to have to do every time. I am sure my kids will wonder if I have lost my mind.

I have tried all of the above and STILL not counting all my floors.

Should have gone with the other brandSmiley Sad

It's ridiculous having to raise your hand above your head just to get the tracker to acknowledge the floor count. Half the time I forget, while the other half I feel stupid doing it.

I have this problem also. Going up my stairs in home the handrail is on the side of my fitbit. A few things I wonder about... 1. Does arm movement matter when I'm climbing and 2.  Does the pressure between floors sometimes vary more than when I'm outside.

I"m having the same problem as well. I realize it doesn't track when I go down, but I try to go up and down the steps, and sometimes it counts and sometimes it doesn't. I just want to get to 10 floors, and I know I've gotten more than that, but my Versa isn't logging them.

And yes, I tried resetting it.

I figured out my Versa fails to log my floors at a rate of 0 or 1 to 10 floors a day.  It got so I keep a little card at the bottom of my stairs and I hand note my floors throughout the day, then log it in My Fitness Pal.  It pales in comparison to getting credit for my actual floors on Fitbit.  I used to be a champion floor climber when we lived on a big hill.  My floors count for nothing in Fitbit League.  It is admittedly a first world problem, but pretty disappointing.  I would love to take pride in my floor counts again too.

Add me to the list of folks who tried these things to no consistent avail:

1. reset Versa

2. made sure my Fitbit app is up to date

3. made sure if using app in iPad that my Android phone Bluetooth is turned off (if both on at same time it seems to mess with the syncing)

4. made sure altimeter hole at back is not clogged with lint (recommended when I had same problem with my old Charge II)

5. made sure more than ten feet of elevation from one floor to the next (I have two floors in my home and rarely get any credit for going up them)

6. tried raising arms above head at the top of the stairs

7. tried both quickly going up the stairs and going up at a normal pace

8. tried beginning my floor on the top two or three steps of the basement stairs to ensure that it gets logged.

9. tried taking a single step (not two) as I reach the landing so that I’m smoothly going higher and higher rather than appearing to have failed to climb the full ten or more feet.

Color me disappointed. In the grand scheme of world events, it is admittedly a minor irritation, but Fitbit advertises floor counts as a benefit, and my original Fitbit One was champion at them, but my Charge II and now my replacement Versa are thus far singularly awful at counting floors.

Looking forward to an actual solution to this not just a post marked solved when it is clear that a number of us have not had solutions at all.
