There is a question in the forum but it appears as solved, so starting a new thread to get assistance from the community.

I am used to track bike rides with my Versa. I patiently wait untill the "Connect" message is shown and the short vibration on the device is felt, then start. All good until last week when it only logged the elapsed time and heart rate. No miles, no speed, nothing. Same this morning. Any advice on how to get it back? I really like this feature as I want to keep tracking my commute.

I have read through this thread about people not being able to get the Fitbit Versa to track their bike ride, and I am impressed that  Fitbit has not produced a clear, concise, step by step guide for this purpose.  I think the people in the thread are no dummies, and neither am I, except for one fact:  we trusted the techies who designed this piece of wrist crap.

The people who designed this app ARE NOT ATHLETES because if they were they would think differently.  They are data hogs, trying desperately to capture and report what we do, and in the process create additional algorithmic gyrations that conflict with previous code.  Don't get me wrong, there are great techies out there.  But if the Bell curve serves us well, most techies are **ahem**s with a power trip and I am sick of them.

My next step of adjusting my Fitbit Versa will involve a sledgehammer and a credit card.  The sledgehammer will reduce my Fitbit Versa to dust and the remains will be sent to the marketing department with an appropriate note.  The credit card will be used to buy the best -- and simplest -- means of tracking my training on the bike.  The really great technical products always cost more and provide simple operation for complete data reporting.  Forgive for this:  Fitbit is a piece of **ahem**.

Yes, the Versa tracks steps perfectly and thats it.  With Covid I'm not swimming so I don't have the watch dying after swimming issue.  When I bike it tracks zero miles and rarely does the mph correctly.  It does track the amount of time I cycled.  I'm not a techy so thanks to all that post the factory reset and this and that.  In my mind though the watch should just operate doing the things that it is claimed to do without all of these push ups by the user to figure out what to do to have the watch perform as it is claimed to.  So as I've said before, I'll do research on my next watch to ensure it is quality and highly reliable when it comes to tracking biking, swimming, workouts in general.  I've heard Garmins are good watchs.

My bike ride didn’t track mikes tonight but my signal on my phone was rubbish. So if no signal on phone would that mean no map?

I don't think so.  I've had my phone on with service, rode 20 miles and the Fitbit usually tracks 3/8th of a mile.  Others have done push ups to figure out what the problem is - I don't, it should work - I shouldn't have to work to figure out how to make it work.  A big disappointment in the cycling and swimming arena.

It’s so annoying ! I understand now that for it to track my ride my phone needs to be almost next to my watch for it too track! Big mistake not getting a watch with GPS xx

Yes, getting the Versa for anything other than tracking steps is a mistake.  I ride with the fitbit app open my cell phone in a fanny pack and my watch - and it never tracks correctly.  And the thing dies in the water.

I have been syncing the Versa with the phone app just before I ride and I get good readings about 80% of the time.  really pretty good compared to where I started.

I've tried this and It still doesn't work for me. When I first bought the watch in January I had this issue. Then after an update to the watch in March/April it started working fine. Now all of a sudden it has stopped working again.

I've tried factory reset, and every other troubleshooting suggestion out there, but nothing seems to work.

I should add, it is still tracking distance correctly if I track a walk or run. Just not on my bike rides.

I have tried everything, even running a biking app while i do it so gps is
on, still wont track right. I'm selling and going back to the ionic. I
tried resetting both phone and versa watch and uninstalling and reinstall
and same with bluetooth. Nothing fixed it completely.

Same here.  Mine used to work but after the last update doesn't.  Tech support claims it is because phone does not have GPS.  However it used to work and I'm riding the same exact route so their lame scripted support doesn't hold water in my opinion.  Bottom line, it's supposed to be a tracker and it doesn't do what is is supposed to do.

Hi Lagonz. I had the same problem that you had. So I did a factory reset. I am carrying my phone with me and it only tracks the GPS when the screen is on and in the app. I know previously it didn't matter. As long as my phone is with me. But now recently it changed and only track when Im in the app and screen is on. I dont know if you can maybe assist. Maybe there is a setting or something. I have tried everything and looked everywhere

I got a similar issue... Tracking only with the screen on.... But I read in another forum that we have go to the app settings and allow location all the time. Apparently, the GPS turns off when the phone blocks (screen off). Allowing location all the time may solve this issue, I haven't tried it yet.

I have found that it works nearly every single time if I first Sync the Versa to the App on my phone just before I start the Bike Exercise tracking program on the Versa; in that order.

Of course your Phone's GPS has to be working.

None of the other suggestions I heard seemed to make any difference. Including the factory reset.

When I checked my settings my location was turned off.  It must have happened when it updated.  I turned location and now mine is working fine. Sent from my Galaxy
