Versa over calculating calories burned

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have had the Versa for a few weeks and it appears to be over estimating calories burned for active minutes and workouts. My best example is based on a recent Nike workout I did. It was a 25 minute cardio workout . The workout app suggested I burned 165 calories . Google search suggested about 200 calories were burned for a cardio workout of that length. However the Versa estimates 380 calories!!!??? I am 6’2 195 pounds and age 25. Is there’s a good way to adjust setting to make the versa Moreno accurate? Very disappointed so far. Especially since there appears to be an issue with the gps feature but I would Be content with Just accurate calorie estimates.

@tdubbs1212 It's because Versa displays TOTAL calories and not only active calories (that's what you got from Google). Total calories = your BMR plus active calories. Check out this help article.

Correct as you stated, Total Cal = BMR + active calories. The estimated BMR (Versa) agrees very well with estimates from other sources based on my height weight ect. My issue is that the versa overestimates calories burned for an activity. For example, see the original post. Another example is that yesterday my fit bit estimated my total calorie burn for the day at >4000 calories from a 2.5 mile jog (10 min pace) at night and a 15 min walk in the morning. My BMR is about 2000 and there is no way the walk and jog burned 2000 calories.

The calories for the activity already include your BMR but also heavily depend on your HR. I need to see some screenshots, especially for:

  • heart rate recording for that jog (fitbit mobile app or fitbit.com)
  • heart rate recording for the whole day (fitbit mobile app)
  • calories burned chart (calories per hour) from fitbit.com
  • calories burned curve for the jog (fitbit mobile app or fitbit.com)

@tdubbs1212 Thank u for posting screenshots. That's exactly what I need just for different days. The jog took place on Tuesday, 7:20 PM. I need all the other charts for that day not Wednesday. Unless the calorie burn per day was ok for Tuesday and it's only Wednesday that is problematic? I see 2 large heart rate activities on Wed (around 12 am and 12 pm). Did you perform any activities? Regarding Jog workout itself. The calorie burn is right and aligns with the heart rate. So, I am more curious about your daily calorie burn if indeed it's over 4000 every day...

I don't understand how calories are counted.  One day I had 8870 steps, 3.69 miles and 33 minutes of activity with 2256 calories.  The next day I had 12877 steps, 5.38 miles, 63 minutes of activity and 2236 calories. I would think being more active I would burn more calories.  This happens consistently.

@EileenMH It's because the bottom line is your heart rate. To get active minutes you simply need to be moderately more active then at rest, i.e. at least 3 MET. It could be that on days you have only 30 minutes, it is more demanding activity (higher heart rate, higher calorie burn), i.e. these 30 minutes are more "active" than other 60. Hah 😄 Please take a look at this help article.
