If you contact customer support they will get it resolved, if you send them
a picture of the problem and full details they should get it sorted I ended
up with a new one which so far is working well, they did sort it out very
quickly

I am having this problem.  The only thing my Versa 2 will display is a red X with the message "data not cleared.  sync and try again."

I have tried restarting it by holding down the side button for a minute.  That did nothing.

I have also tried removing the device from my the app on my phone and then setting it up as though it was new, but my phone's bluetooth can't find it.  (And yes, I turned bluetooth off and on and all of the obvious stuff.)

So now the device it not connected to bluetooth (since I unpaired it when I removed it) and it is not connected to WiFi (I was already having a problem getting it to connect to my network when this happened).  Moreover, the device is frozen on the red X screen, so I can't go into settings.  That's why some of the advice on is thread, such as try syncing again, makes no sense.  There is no way to sync it.  There's literally nothing that can be done.  It's basically dead, unable to move beyond the red X.

I bought it from Target 45 days ago and they have a great return policy, but I threw out the box/packaging so I can't return it there.  Will Fitbit replace it for me even though I bought it from Target, have no box, and have no receipt?  Or am I out of luck, having a Fitbit that died after only 45 days?

I kept trying to set up a new device.  At first the phone couldn't find the tracker with bluetooth, but it eventually did.  That finally got it passed the dreaded red X screen, but I still couldn't connect to wifi.  I had to update via bluetooth, which took forever.

I'll move on to a different thread now since I solved the red X problem and now have to deal with a different problem (the inability to connect to wifi).

Thanks.

Pressing the button on the Versa 2 for ten seconds did nothing to remove the Red X and the "Data not Cleared, Sync and Try Again" message. You cannot do ANYTHING with this screen showing.

This is the most frustrating device I have worked with in a long time.  I have a versa and it works great.  This versa lite is really frustrating.  About to return at this point!  Tried everything recommended.

Hi All,

I am unable to get past the red circle with the x data not cleared sync and try again. Has someone been able to clear this and how did you do it. I have tried all suggestions but no luck.

I had this same problem! None of the other suggestions to fix it worked for me, so I went onto my Fitbit app to see if my Versa 2 was Bluetooth connecting to the app. It wasn’t immediately when I opened the app but I had my watch next to my phone and the app was able to sense my Fitbit and a notification popped up that asked me to set up my Fitbit again so I clicked yes. My Fitbit was able to setup again like it was brand new and now it works again!

Have you tried putting it on charge. On your app go to set up new device and click on that. ??When it goes into search mode it should find your fitbit and reinstall it.this worked for me.

That didn't happen with mine. However, after reading your post I deleted the Versa 2 from my Fitbit App and reinstalled it. For right now it's working again. I suspect an update didn't completely install and this may have caused the problem initially, but that's just a silly, wild _ _ _ _ _ guess.

I know the feeling. It seems you have to give the Versa 2 access to just about everything on your cell phone in order for it to set up properly. That red x and "data not cleared, re sync and try again" doesn't tell you much as to what the real problem is and you can't turn the watch off to clear it. Deleting the Versa 2 from my Fitbit App and startion over was the final step before boxing the watch up and returning it.
Happy New Year!
