Mine worked eventually on wifi and Blue tooth. Others had luck through the
USB cable on the computer. Do you have the Fitbit app on your phone and
your Apple Mac then it should work just keep trying.

when the screen shows the red x, you can’t do anything with the fit bit. It won’t let you change anything or do anything

That's correct. If you can connect to a computer with USB it's possible to
clear the problem, I did mine through my phone but had to delete the app
and reinstall it. Had a few goes, need to be connected to WIFI. Try
computer first, there are many suggestions on Fitbit Community, need to
have patience.

Tried all of that. Nothing worked. Shouldn’t be this big of a hassle to be able to use this product. Gonna take it back and buy a better product.

Not sure if this will help but I had factory reset my fitbit versa lite because it wasn’t syncing via the app, long story short, data not cleared sync and try again was coming up on my screen with a red x, after hours of resetting and disconnecting from Bluetooth, I connected the watch from another phone and attempted setup on this other phone, it got to 100% then was turning on/off multiple times, I then plugged the watch with the charger attached into my laptop (macbook pro) and it finally installed whatever current update it needed and the set up of my watch was complete, not sure if this will work for everyone but after trying to fix my watch all day this worked and its back up and running right now!

I’ve powered up an old iPhone. Going to start again from fresh and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

I am in a loop. Cannot reset versa 2. Stuck on "data not cleared sync & try again." Cannot sync with this on screen.  Reset by holding left button until logo appears.  Then I get "data not cleared sync & try again." How do I file a warranty claim to get this replaced? Every 48 hours this thing freezes.

My situation is exactly the same. I am going to phone support.

I definitely recommend speaking to customer support, although I fixed mine they still are sending me a replacement! I used the chat option and tweeted them on twitter as well
