Versa screen is flickering and fading out

My Versa was awesome... until a few days ago when my screen started flickering, fading, and partially appearing. If I swipe off of the main watch face, the previous image still partially appears faintly. The perimeter of any screen I’m on is faint too, but this isn’t constant.

I haven’t been swimming or anything with it... It’s as if I went to sleep and then when I woke up it was doing this out of nowhere.

Any way this is a new firmware issue? I’ve taken exceptional care of my Versa (because this is my second one).

@Easily welcome to our Fitbit Community! I'm happy to assist you with your Fitbit Versa since the display started flickering and faded out.

Please restart your Versa as described in this help article. After this, try changing the clock face to one developed by Fitbit. After this, check out if the display works properly.

Keep me posted on the outcome! Smiley Happy

I’ve been a Fitbit member since Feb 2014...

I followed your suggestions...absolutely no luck. The screen seems to be worse since restarting honestly.

This is the second Versa LE I’ve had that has gone bad. People really don’t have $200 a year to purchase a new tracker...

I asked about firmware because this literally happened out of nowhere. I didn’t know when the last FitBit OS update was pushed out?? Or maybe an app update that caused my screen to glitch??

I haven’t been swimming.I didn’t run into anything...I’m starting to feel ripped off because for the past 2 or 3 devices I’ve had... it seems like issues happen close to 1 year or just after 1 year of owning that the device s have just magically become unusable.

After trying the restarts and watch face change like you said... it now looks like the picture included below.

Mine just did this this morning when I woke up. I'm so bummed! I got it back in February. This came out of nowhere..i might have banged it a few times on the wall or stairs but that's normal everyday wear and tear I would think and it cant hold up. I love this watch and now I'm mad its crapping out

I have been a Fitbit member since 2012 and loved my all my devices as I advanced through the ranks.  However, my Blaze just died one day, out of the blue.  Sad as it was, I used it as an excuse to purchase the new Versa, which I have enjoyed.  Last summer, it shut down suddenly and would not reboot no matter what I tried, or what Fitbit Support walked me through.  Less than a year after my replacement, I now have screen flicker and fading.  This started suddenty two nights ago.  Changing the clock screen and doing a factory reset has done nothing to improve the fading and flicker.  I am now long past the warranty and very disappointed.

The same thing happened to me last week.  Out of the blue the screen started to fade, it's ok if I don't touch anything and just check my step count but if I touch any of the buttons or the close face it fades out - I can see the clock in the background and the other app icons overlayed but everything is very blurred, faint and unusable.  I've restarted and changed the clock face but nothing works.  This is my 3rd fit bit, 4th if you count the step counter I bought through Weight Watchers.

Carolynne0104,

This is the first time I’ve come back to make a new comment, to my own original post about this happening... but...your comment to my original thread is a combination of irony and awesome timing...

This literally happened to me again this week, around 1/26 or 1/27... literally out of nowhere. I took a nap, and when I woke up it was just power cycling, flickering, and the touchscreen does nothing. It won’t even hard resets.I’ve let the battery drain completely, fully charge it, try to update, change clock faces... etc. But no luck so far.

The original solution offered by Fitbit was to give me a coupon of like 25% I think... so I could purchase a new one from their store, because it was past the warranty period. I just want to quote myself from above for the record: “...I’m starting to feel ripped off because for the past 2 or 3 devices I’ve had... it seems like issues happen close to 1 year or just after 1 year of owning that the device s have just magically become unusable.”

So this happened... again. And just like last time a new “version” of the Versa was released. This happened to me on the Versa, Versa 2 LE, and now my second Versa 2.  Each time this happened, a new Versa had recently been released or revised, and then a firmware or watch update came out... and my device magically breaks. I’m thinking about writing to the Consumer Protection Bureau. Or the Federal Trade commission, because this is ridiculous. I’ve heard of planned obsolescence, but 1 to 1.5 years is ridiculously short when you pay $250 for a watch/fitness tracker...
