Versa steps not equal to miles

Hi!

I have the new versa for 2 weeks now and from day one, my steps don't equal to the right miles. For example the first day, it took almost 7000 steps to get a mile! My stepping is 2400 equal to a mile. Contacted Fitbit support and did everything they suggested, still off. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

@Krazsian Welcome! It's nice to have you on board! Sorry to hear that your Versa is requiring too many steps to complete a mile. Has this happened again or frequently? Have you checked the height you entered on your personal settings? Did you log any activities for that day? You can improve the distance calculation by entering your stride length which can be calculated following these instructions. Also recording runs and walks using the Connected GPS feature helps in this regard.

Let me know how it goes!

I have tried everything you mentioned! I decided to try the automatic
manual setting one more time before I return it for a replacement. Thanks

Similar but not as extreme.

When I was using surge (since the beginning of my Fitbit data or approx 3 yrs)

5/29 I had 10,278 steps which equated 4.28 miles and 2401 steps per mile
5/25 I had 10656 steps which equated 4.39 miles 2427 steps per mile
5/23 I had 10533 steps which equated 4.43 miles 2377 steps per mile

Now that I am using a versa:
6/27 10331 steps and 3.85 miles or 2683 steps per mile
6/26 9095 steps and 3.45 miles or 2636 steps per mile
6/25 4965 steps and 1.47 miles or 3377 steps per mile

With a stride length of 26 inches math tells me I should have approx 2436 steps per mile.
This data suggests versa is inaccurate and inconsistent.  Furthermore, it shows the surge was quite a superior piece of equipment.

What I have noticed is that there isn't a fixed number of steps per mile. I know that fitbit uses two stride lengths (one for running and one for walking) but this couldn't explain it as I don't run.

What seems to be happening with the versa is when I am just working around the house (rather than continuously walking) then it tends to take more steps to get a mile. It's almost as if it recognizes that I am not really walking and shows that in the distance calculated. I never noticed this with other fitbits, including the Surge, but I can't say for sure it didn't happen.

If this is what is happening then it seems a good thing. The steps I take when, for example, I'm cooking in the kitchen, are not as long as when I am out hiking.

I changed my exercises in the fitbit app (it's the one called exercise
shortcuts) by deleting one I don't use and then selecting Walk with GPS
automatically turned on. Then I selected automatic manual for the stride
instead of entering in my own.

I was off about 500 steps at the end of the day yesterday which is way
better than the prior 10 days.

I hit one mile this AM at 2244 Steps at a fast pace. Yesterday morning 2547
steps for a mile. Will see how it is today before I return it for a
replacement.

I noticed this too. Verse seems to recognize that short steps are not the same as a continuous walk. At the end the f the day I am off just a few hundred steps. Maybe the Versa is actually more accurate than the previous Fitbits I owned.
