Versa stopped tracking stairs and screen won't swipe

I've had this Versa for less than 2 months and it no longer works properly. It stopped tracking stairs climbed about 3 weeks ago, the screen does not always swipe, sometimes the screen goes black, the only thing that works is steps taken. Fitbit customer support was no help and I have tried EVERYTHING mentioned in this community (factory reset etc etc). This piece of crap was a gift and I don't have the box it came in so the store my husband bought it from won't take it back. Are all Fitbit products this bad? I would expect better from something that has been used less than 2 months. So frustrating.
