Versa swimming

Thinking about purchasing a Versa. Mainly interested in it recording swim lengths.

Does anyone know how accurate it is please?

Tried a Fitbit flex 2 and it was way out on the lengths that I’d actually done.

Plus, does anyone know if you can see the lengths you’ve done on the Versa screen whilst swimming? As the flex you only knew on the app after your swim, I like to do 100 lengths and would like to know in the pool how many lengths I’d done.

I actually just used this feature last night and it was very accurate!  And yes...when you set the versa to start tracking swimming, the display stays up and you can see the lengths as you go.

Oh. Brilliant that’s what I wanted to know :white_heavy_check_mark:

was concerned it would be like the flex2.

I’m using the leisure centre SWIMTAG at present, which are accurate but doesn’t give you info in the pool.

Thanks for response

I just got a Fitbit Versa and tried it out in the pool last night.  I swam 24 lengths, and it said I did 27.   Oddly, for me the Flex 2 (both, as I lost one and replaced it) was almost always exactly accurate, or occasionally 1 length off.  I returned a FitBit Ionic because it overcounted wildly.  The most accurate lap counter I've tried was an Apple Watch Series 2, which always counted exactly right,  and accurately identified the stroke for each length.  But I like the Fitbit app and don't need all the extra technology in the Apple Watch,  I'm hoping I can figure out the trick to getting the Versa to count accurately; it is so comfortable to wear and I like having the watch display with steps, etc.  If anybody has any hints, please let me know.  I do not stop or change strokes in the middle of a length, and swim pretty evenly if slowly.  I think it may not like switches between breaststroke and crawl ..have to experiment more.

Hi
Thanks for reply.
Agree that the Apple Watch has far too much on it for what I need.
Someone else has replied saying they found it accurate so like you say maybe it’s finding correct technique. I know with the SWIMTAG I’ve been using you need to touch the side so it almost bumps and records the end of the length.
I still need to save a few pennies first so will keep looking into it.
Thanks for help though.

Is your Fitbit Versa still ok, after several times you swum with it ? Mine died after the second time i swum with it, I'm reading several post regarding this and it seems some have issues and some have not.

Question do you dry it before you stop the swim program (and finish the exercise) , do you dry it after the swim ? I returned mine to the retailer and I am getting a new one, I don't dare swimming with it again.

Hi,

so far, I swam with my Versa about 10 times (about 45min each) and it still works fine. (Even took it into the whirl pool with me later on, and the heat didn't cause any problems)

At the start I used a custom clock face that caused my versa to crash, especially when I did anything with water. After I switched to a fitbit clock face, everything worked great.

It counts the laps more or less accurately (off by up to 4 laps on 40 laps so far).

It does not record your swim style, nor will it keep your swimming summary unfortunately. (so look closely, when you hit the end of your training, you will not get to this information again -.-)

It does give you a rather useless graph, that shows how much calories you burned over time (no indication of laps, so who knows on what lap you were, when you burned more/less). At least the graph does give you an indication on how long you swam (at the top of the screen actually, not the graph itself!)

TL;DR:

I like swimming with my Versa, it works good after 10 times in the pool (each time about 45min) and it counts laps good enough for me (just doesn't give you any useful data aside from the summary, which it does not store ^^)

Mine died after swimming for less than an hour!  It was my third Versa.
