Versa synced but not receiving notifications

My phone and Versa are actively syncing but I am not receiving any notifications. The fitbit app does not give options to turn notifications on or off for messaging, phone calls, email, or my calendar. Bluetooth is connected, do not disturb is not enabled, and all my app notifications are turned on on my phone. I've gone through the troubleshooting guides and can't figure this out.

I have also pressed the left and bottom buttons until the fitbit logo appears, then it resets and links. Maybe try that next time if you cant figure anything out to fix it.

Yes! This worked perfectly!

There are WAY too many places to turn on/off notifications. I forgot this was one of them until you mentioned it. THANK YOU!!

I was going nuts with my brand new Fitbit Versa Special Edition not putting up ANY notifications on my IPhone XS  today.

had gone through all steps and solutions to make it work, turning Bluetooth on and off, and being sure all notifications were turned on. I tried turning Airplane mode on and off, etc. Basically, you want to have gone through all normal Fitbit instructions for enabling notifications.

Finally, it occurred to me to do a simple shutdown and restart of my iPhone. This fixes MANY things on iPhones. To do this on iPhone X and up, press and hold the right side and upper left side buttons together for a few seconds until “Slide to power off” appears. On earlier iPhones or iPods, you’d push and hold the top sleep/wake button for a few seconds until “Slide to power off” appears.

Slide the indicator to the to the right as shown on screen.  The phone will shut off.  After about 10 seconds, press the right side button (top button on older devices) for a couple of seconds, and the Apple logo will appear. At the prompt, enter your PIN code to get to the phone’s main screen.

After doing this, dozens of backed-up notifications came flooding in on my Versa, and all was well.  Now I should probably go back and adjust exactly which notifications I really want. The Fitbit app allows you to turn on or off every notification you’ve received.

Hope this helps!

Wow, why did they go to so much trouble to hide this setting? They could have simply put it on the Settings menu on the watch, but no! This hidden option of holding the button down for a couple of seconds is not mentioned anywhere I can find.

Anyway, thanks for pointing it out.

Hmm, this forum does not thread conversations, include the message being replied to, or provide any indication of where the reply belongs? Is FitBit trying to make me hate them? It's been one headache after another since I got it. I miss my Pebble. It just worked.

Anyway, I was responding to Hev14's message (#18 in this thread) about holding down the left button for a couple of seconds to expose the hidden notifications on/off setting.

Hi Ron, glad it helped. When you reply to a post, above the text box there is a ‘quote’ button. If you click that it puts the thread you are replying to in so you can then reply to that. It is very backwards but hope it helps 😊

Re: Problem where FitBit Versa did not post iPhone notifications on the watch.

My “fix” of pushing two buttons to shut off the iPhone and restarting it had nothing to do with the FitBit Versa, and resetting an iPhone is very well documented. If the iPhone wasn’t in the mood to exchange notifications with the Versa, there is probably nothing you could do to make the Versa solve that on the watch or FitBit app.

Also, there ARE settings on the watch and FitBit app to hold off notifications for “Do not disturb” so you don’t get notifications while you’re sleeping. I tried changing those settings too, but that was not the problem.

Bottom line - I finally got notifications to work by resetting the iPhone, which as I said, fixes many iPhone problems.

I’ve tried all these solutions and none of them work. I like the design of the Versa, but without the capability of syncing to my iPhone, it’s nothing more than an expensive chronometer. Fitbit has promised to call me several times. I’ve been waiting for six months. No call back.

Steve:

Does ANYTHING currently sync properly to your Versa, such as steps , pulse rate, etc?  Does the Versa show up in your Bluetooth settings? If it isn’t in iPhone, Settings, Bluetooth, it’s never been paired, and that should be a number one priority before you can get notifications.

Do you have another Fitbit synched with your phone?  Although I was able to setup my Versa with two other Fitbits enabled with no problems, you might to want to “Forget” the other devices in your phone’s Bluetooth settings.

I sometimes use my Fitbit’s, including the Versa, on my iPad instead of my iPhone. When I do this, I frequently forget to turn OFF Bluetooth on the primary iPhone. This is because the Versa syncs mainly with my phone. Once I turn off the phone’s Bluetooth, and turn Bluetooth on on the iPad, the iPad will properly pair and sync with the iPad, as well as get notifications.

Once you have a good sync with your Versa, you ought to be able to enable all Versa notifications on your phone and other phone settings, be sure you don’t have your phone’s “Do not disturb” enabled, and everything on your typical list of notifications.

The Versa has ITS OWN custom list of notifications you can enable or disable in the Fitbit Versa section of your FitBit app on the phone, NOT your phone’s notifications list, although that MUST establish whether you allow the Fitbit to notify the iPhone. The Fitbit notifications section for the Versa sets an on-off toggle for every notification it has been asked to send out. That way, if you get a lot of annoying notifications from a particular app, you can just turn that off.

Hoping something here helps,

Gino

Mikey:

Over the last few days, my Versa Special Edition had stopped clearing all old notifications, for which the workaround is to go to my watch settings (on the watch), then scroll to “About”. Tap About, then scroll down to “Shutdown” and tap it.  The watch will reset. After a few seconds, push the left watch button, and the watch will eventually come to the Fitbit logo. ALL notifications will be cleared, and the next time you clear all notifications, they should again be cleared.  However, this problem could recur, and you may need to reset again a few days later. This is NOT a FIX, but a WORKAROUND.  I’m hoping for a real fix from FitBit.

NEXT, I had a recurrence of not getting ANY notifications.  My fix for that is pretty simple, and doesn’t involve the Fitbit app or watch.  I just reset my iPhone by holding the buttons on top right and left until the “Slide to power off” message appears. Slide the button to the right, and the phone (or other I-device) shuts off.  In about 10 seconds, press and hold the top right button until the Apple logo appears. When it’s done, login and you will get a FLOOD of missing notifications just pouring in!

After looking at them, you can now clear them, and that should work as well. Again, this is not a fix, but a workaround.  Still waiting for an update to solve that.
